View Full Version : If You Were Auditioning for American Idol...

What song would you pick? What would your backup song be? Would you dork it up just for the fun of it or present yourself (relatively) seriously? Would you flirt shamelessly with the judges or be all "I respect your work, Ms. Abdul"?

I don't know what I'd sing, but I'd definitely throw a little I don't give a shit about the outcome charm Simon's way.

I think I'd belt out a passionate rendition of Every Sperm Is Sacred, while wearing a sperm costume with a condom over my head.

And yes, I'd take it very seriously. American Idol can set you up for life - even the worst of them manage careers in music (William Hung).

American Idol is no laughing matter. It's a serious journey to stardom, and one I would not dare squander if I were to perform an audition.

I love your work, Ms. Abdul.

Simon...call me.

I wouldn't have to worry about it. Even if I sang brilliantly, they'd boot me on image. In that case, I'd have to say I'd ham it up just to fuck with 'em.

Probably some gospel song. They all seem to like a well sung gospel song.

edit: at 31, I think I am too old to audition anyway. I was relieved to find this out this year because people have bugged me the past few years to audition for the show. My answer was always that I am not good enough, notw I can simply say that I'm too old. :)

If I had the voice for it, I Think It's Going to Rain Today, originally by Nina Simone and covered by Bette Midler. There's a part that just pulls my heart out of my chest and it's very different and unique.

I am so sick of Whitney Houston!

The American Idol competition is for gregarious, passionate, creative, and highly motivated people. In other words, there's no way in hell I'd ever make it. If I did try out, though, I'd be very serious and give it my all.

Oh, and I'd sing Whitney Houston's Greatest Love of All, definitely.

I would sing Lovin', Touchin', Sqeezin' from Journey, and I would take it very seriously. But I wouldn't lie to Ms. Abdul.

Yeah, really, vm!

At least choose Foreigners' I Wanna Know What Love Is or something. :giggle:

But I wouldn't lie to Ms. Abdul.

Oh, but you should! When you're a rising star you will need to learn the artful skill of bullshit. It's in all the contracts. :deal:

I just think it's perfectly shameless that liv started this thread for the sole purpose of using that smilie.

That'll get you good and ready for your future on the chain gang, Brim. And I did not start this thread just to use the smiley, dammit. I started it cause vm wouldn't answer when I asked him what song he'd sing so I figgered I'd make a thread of it instead and get some answer's from y'all.

Hey lady, can you really copy Bette Middler?

It would have to be my pub Karaoke version of My Girl, a song that when sung by me has reduced grown men to tears, usually followed by the hurling of bottles and my ejection from said pub.

If I could actually sing and do it seriously it would be "it had to be you"

Brother my cup is empty by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the best drinking song ever, I would do it just a little bit drunk and kind of tunelessly cuz I am a little tonedeaf.
