Liv, you haven't read the Hitchhiker's Guide?

Here's an excerpt you may or may not appreciate

Vogon poetry is of course the third worst in the Universe. The second worst is that of the Azgoths of Kria. During a recitation by their Poet Master Grunthos the Flatulent of his poem 'Ode to a Small Lump of Green Putty I Found in My Armpit One Midsummer Morning' four of his audience died of internal hemorrhaging, and the President of the Mid-Galactic Arts Nobbling Council survived by gnawing one of his own legs off. Grunthos is reported to have been 'disappointed' by the poem's reception, and was about to embark on a reading of his twelve-book epic entitled My Favorite Bathtime Gurgles when his own major intestine, in a desperate attempt to save life and civilization, leaped straight up through his neck and throttled his brain.

Oh freddled gruntbuggly...
...thy micturations are to me
As plurdled gabblegotchits on a lurgid bee.
Groop I implore thee,
My foonting turlingdromes.
And hooptiously drangle me with crinkly bindlewurdles,
Or I will rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon,
See if I don't!

Liv we'll make a deal. If I am going to watch 8 mile you HAVE to read these books! How's about it?

How can we not mention the God vanished in a puff of logic sequence:
“ The Babelfish is small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy not from its carrier but from those around it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. It then excretes into the mind of its carrier a telepathic matrix formed by combining the conscious thought frequencies with nerve signals picked up from the speech centres of the brain which has supplied them. The practical upshot of all this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language. The speech patterns you actually hear decode the brainwave matrix which has been fed into your mind by your Babelfish.

"Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindboggingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as the final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God.

"The argument goes something like this: `I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'

`But,' says Man, `The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.'

`Oh dear,' says God, `I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanished in a puff of logic.

`Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next zebra crossing.

My sig on my hotmail account for a while was
"The only way to get a drink out of a Vogon is to stick your fingers down its throat"
I don't know many people who got it, just thought i was wierd.

My sister many years ago gave the the radio scripts for my birthday. They are great, i laughed till i had tears. The books and TV rock aswell.
I was very sad when i heard he died. That what going to the gym does for ya.

liv...read the whole series when you get a chance.

It is my plan to watch this movie more times at the theater than I have for the movie that holds my personal record at 13 (my secret...unless you really need to know...pm).

My entrance into the world HGTTG was in 1982 at CoastCon when I saw the poor man's TV version in one of the movie rooms (during my RHPS days). Speaking plainly...it sucked Rumsfeld's ween.

I do have high hopes for this production, though.

That said, there is as much potential for catastrophic failure as I am sensing for "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

I'm no prophet.

Are they making a movie of this. Did not know that.
Ronin- you didn't like the original British show?? come on it was pretty good. (unless there is something about Rumsfelds ween you aren't telling us).

Had a look, not a bad cast. Probaly won't make it out here for ages though, i'll keep a eye out.

I didn't like the British show much...it just didn't match up with what I had in my head when I read the book.

Of course, back then I also thought "A Boy And His Dog" (starring a young Don Johnson) was brilliant Oscar material.

The Ultimate HHGTTG? Is that different from THHGTTG? I've read THGTTG and all the sequels, and attempted to write Vogon poetry, but is this...even more? :qeek:

I think what he is referring to is THHGTTG and all of the sequels in one volume.
