View Full Version : Private journal entries

I often edit my journal entries several times in just a few minutes. I have noticed that everytime I edit a private entry, it reverts to a public entry and sometimes if I am rushed, I forget to check to make sure it remains private. So, the result is people often see very personal or embarassing things I did not intend to be publicly said. Is there anyway that the private entries can be set so that they do not revert everytime an edit is made?

How's that line go? "Never post anything on the internet that you wouldn't want your mother to hear at the trial."

Something like that. :D

Something like that. :DWEll, I try to be careful because I expect that even the private ones will be read. Thing is, a personal journal at home would likely be read as well. I suppose I should give up on it and stick to writing down the boring events of the day for a housewife rather than try to delve into my thoughts.

I had just wondered if there was some sort of control panel setting that dealt with this that I simply could not find.

As always, the technical stuff is vm's province, but just as a general comment the journal hack is kind of a mess, so it seems very likely that this editing problem is a bug/design flaw and not anything you're doing wrong or overlooking on the CP.

Ah, ok. Thanks for responding, anyway. I'll just try to be more careful. :)

Bumping because the new journal install vm implemented yesterday should have fixed this problem. Please give it a try and let us know, Beth. :)

Or you could write emails to yourself on a gmail account you set up.

I like the new journals. I can even only allow people on my secret and exclusive :P friends list to see an entry. whoo-hoo!

I'm glad you like it, Beth. :)

I'm looking into changing a few things. For example right now there's no indicator on each post that says whether it's private or not, admins can see all entries (private or not) and when you select the people who you want to give access to you have to put in their user login ID# (which is a bit of a pain to find) instead of just their login name. I'll have those issues resolved soon, though.

Hehe. Yup, I realized the privacy thing today. You and Liv got to read some very nice things about my husband's messes, even though I marked them private. :)

Well if it's any consolation I stopped reading your new entries as soon as I realized that they were private - which was quite a few weeks ago.

Aw, that is so nice of you. :) My newer ones aren't marked private. It'll be nice when I can keep both a private journal and a public one.

When I click the link (in the member options dropdown menu) to go to the journals I get this:

xouper, you do not have permission to access this page. ...

I must be speshul. :D

So I have no clue what the heck the journals are.
