View Full Version : Is Poker Good for Children?

I have a young 11-year-old friend who I play chess with. I think playing chess is good because it can help the child think. However, I am thinking of playing poker now. Is poker a suitable game for children? Will it make them smarter? Is poker good for child mind development?

Some say that poker is good for children because it encourages them to be responsible with money. It also helps then count, calculate, and to understand risk, probability, and statistics. It also doesn't need to be played with real money. For example, fake money can be used.

Others say that teaching poker to children encourages them at a young age to be gamblers. They say that poker is not so mathematical and that people usually play poker on instinct. Therefore it doesn't build up any useful skills and may instead lead children down a road towards compulsive gambling, etc. Poker can also be addictive and can consume the child's time, turning him away from homework.

Given your sexual propensities, I don't think you should be playing games with children. If there was a way I could alert the parents of that child, I would.

Poker? As long as you're not poking them in the face with your dick, it's cool.

Well, alright, I remember playing betting games as a kid. We used to play with pennies. I don't think it did any damage. I only lost half of what I own at the casino.

Seriously though, I think it depends on the kid and what they take away from it.

Poker? As long as you're not poking them in the face with your dick, it's cool. You are giving the resident cunt a hell of a lot of lee-way, there.

Seriously though, I think it depends on the kid and what they take away from it. Even more seriously though, I think that might be the type of answer he wanted.

Thanks for the example. I was really confused on how poker could be played without real money.

Kids should learn poker at a young age, as well as cigar smoking and beer drinking. My neglectful parents only taught me about beer drinking, and I was forced to learn about cigar smoking on the street. To this day I can't play poker, and as such I am quite unpopular and borderline suicidal.

Their game was 21. Which, come to think of it, I did learn pretty well at a young age, including how to count cards and how to bet so that it doesn't look like I'm counting cards. I guess there was no way they could have known what a popular fad poker would be come by the time I reached my tender thirties. I'm still bitter about the cigars, though.

I think little boys should be taught to poker at a young age.

but then I am oldfashioned.

little girls shouldn't be taught to poker because that can lead to confusion and the fall of the traditional family.

You know it does not really matter what any of us think. Ask his parents as they are the ones who should decide if they want their child to learn poker. It's not really right for a bunch of people who don't know the kid on some forum to decide if you ask me.

:yeahthat: While you're at it, ask his parents all the other shit you've asked of us as well.

"Spare the red hot fireplace implement, spoil the child" is the maxim I've always heard. Oh, wait, the other poker. It probably applies just as easily there, too.

I learned to play poker at 7 or 8. My family is very much into cards. I played for pennies with my grandmother, and later I joined in the games at big family events. It was a blast and it helped me win some dough in college.

Waiting for Norak to drop the lulzbomb on us.

This is the best part of the post.
