The only reason I am posting this here is because the description of the forum includes the term "health".

MY EYES ARE BURNING.

I have never, ever been a sensitive or "hypoallergenic" type person. I have my favorite products, to be sure, but I can use whatever on the fly and be good to go with nary an ill effect. However, last night I bought some facial cleansing cloths to tide me over for the ski weekend (lamely, I bought the economy brand for like $3 less because I am retarded that way) and ever since I showered with them (it?) my eyes are weeping like a motherfucking Virgin Mary Statue.

IT BURNS!!!!! :(

Any suggestions? I've flushed multiple times.

Ditto, Lauri.
What are you flushing with? Water? Tear substitute? Perhaps a general analgesic would alleviate pain. Sorry. When it comes to medical type things I am a lame-ass know-nothing.

How are you feeling this morning, Lauri? I swear by eyecups, myself, because they do an incomparable job of flushing the eyeball. I don't know if they'd do a thing to help in case of an allergic reaction, though.

I hope you're recovered today. :comfort:

Owie! If you think its an allergic reaction, take some Benadryl, that usually helps.

Thanks all.

I flushed many times again last night before falling to sleep (no eyecups, unfortunately) and woke up this morning just fine (there's a really slight residual sting but nothing major). Needless to say I'm throwing that shit away!

Oh and we postponed skiing til tomorrow. It's raining cats and dogs here.

Why postpone? Cats and dogs will soften any falls you might take.

Hi fish

We went up the mountain successfully today and it was, in a word, awesome. I forgot my ski jacket but as it turned out I didn't even need it; just wearing a regular long-sleeved top, I was still sweating like a mofo. I even jettisoned the gloves after the first couple runs, and just put sunscreen on the tops of my hands.

Blue skies, perfect powder, and a pine forest treeline around a lake that looks totally fake in its perfection. At one point I was heading down the "easy way", and looking up and down, it was just me. No one flying by, no sound but the birds and the faint "swish-swish" of snowboarders taking jumps on the run adjacent. It was sort of surreal and possibly one of the most peaceful moments I have ever experienced.

My friends Troy and Eva are the fast-type snowboarders, so they passed me *twice* on the chairlift as I made my way down the mountain. They said it was kind of funny to watch me taking it easy, but I can't help it; I have no need for speed (in skiing, anyway). I like to cruise along and soak up the scenery, do a see-saw from side to side, then pick up some speed when the slope is not as steep and just RIDE.

But, the second time they passed (me being on the slope and them in the chairlift) I was not able to resist shaking one of my poles in the air and screaming "Fuck you!" as they pointed and laughed. I was just kidding around though, and it was therapeutic, so they didn't mind.

I thought for sure I would sleep like the dead tonight on account of the strenuous activity, but I'll be damned if insomnia doesn't return like a thief in the night again.

Pre-emptive apologies for any incoherence in the previous rambling. Like I've always said, insomnia is a bitch.

I'm glad you got past the eye-watering thing relatively unscathed. Don't worry about skiing slow Lauri, my fast black diamond frequent flyer friends gave me a sew-on patch that depicted a chicken on skiis. I'd say that despite frequent falls and my generally slow pace, I enjoyed myself as much as they did.

I miss skiing, both alpine and nordic. Other than getting my X-C skiis out one time the first winter here in Oklahoma, I haven't been since I moved here in 2000. One of things I liked about living in northern Utah was the number of ski resorts within 20-30 minutes drive. There was Solitude and Brighton up Big Cottonwood Canyon; Snowbird and Alta up Little Cottonwood Canyon; The Canyons (bobsled and luge area nearby and also home of a great snowboard half-pipe), Park City (giant slalom and snowboarding events), Deer Valley (slalom, freestyle and aerials) and Soldier Hollow ski trails (nordic events) near Park City; and Snow Basin (downhill) near Ogden. Solitude was my favorite alpine ski area and Brighton's groomed crosscountry ski trails were just great. In fact, from there you can ski down to Solitude, ride a lift and then ski back down to Brighton.

You live in Rochester and have never gone skiing?

That's right! Too poor/cheap to do it when I was younger, and then I lived out of state for about 7 years. Now I'm back and I'm a little more interested.

I skiied for the first time when I was 26 years old at a one lift ski hill just outside of Evanston, Wyoming, which is no longer in business.

Why am I not surprised liv would have a smilie for this?!

Here's one I found when I searched under "ski": :waterskii:

The disturbing thing about this one is that it almost looks like the little guy is a sniper! Anyone else see that? Or is it just me?
