We are leaving Saturday for a driving vacation with stops in Chattanooga, Boone, Raleigh, then Brunswick, GA (great big loop). We are visiting Kiddo's first families in NC and have a tight schedule, but chose the routes so we can hopefully see some pretty foliage and/or different sights then the direct drive-through-Atlanta that we have done twice now.
I am hoping to see some color, is it Fall in the mountains, or are you having a long summer?

I know people who live in each of those cities and on the way is my hometown too, I'll call and ask my parents if the fall colors are coming out. At this time of the year, the colors should have started coming out in the Appalachian mountains, especially the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. There'd still be plenty of green but you should see some reds and yellows.
Next week, my partner and I are embarking on our driving vacation to Vermont to see the fall colors too :)

Yup, colors are starting to come out in the mountains and on the parkway, especially in the higher elevations. Oughta be coming out in the Piedmont in a week or two. There's not a whole lot of color here in Chapel Hill just yet, so the drive to Raleigh will probably get less scenic as you go east. Not that 40 has ever been particularly scenic.

So Boone should be nice I expect. I believe a hike has been planned for us there.

What Chuck said. There's not a whole lot of color in the Chapel Hill/Raleigh area yet.
I hope you have a pleasant and pretty drive, anyway.
ETA: I just read your signature, LS. That's hilarious!

I've no idea where he heard the phrase "stupid and weird" but seemed to be experimenting with it more than anything, then correcting himself as calling people "stupid" is discouraged here. It was so funny, and I was the only witness unfortunately.

The leaves just started changing in the last few days. That's probably good, or yesterday's storm would have knocked a lot of the leaves off.

Looks just like Vermont! :vibes: And how I miss NC mountains...
Looks like the leaves only have just started changing in Greensboro, my hometown. So won't see much as you drive east towards Raleigh.

Not quite a week later and the colors are becoming more pronounced.

It was a great trip, the colors were amazing. We got a private tour of this 19th century farmhouse (http://www.wataugademocrat.com/2006/0821web/blairhousecluesmaysolvesearch.php3). Aren't the paintings beautiful?
