All in the family because it was groundbreaking and kept America from sinking into the morass of ignorance.

Hogan's Heroes because it gave people the reality of prisoners of war with humour that allowed the American people to not become vindictive about the war and how the prisoners of war were really treated. It instilled in the spirit of freedom that it can never be beaten by any enemy that tries to enslave the spirits of free men.

The Three Stooges. This doesn't need comment. It's the 3 Stooges.

Twilight Zone. It allowed people to think about the impossible that could become possible.

It's so hard to say really, because as you grow up new programs become your favorite and making judgments between favorites at 7 and favorites at 14 are difficult.

When I was really young I couldn't get enough of the Dungeon and Dragons cartoon, Gilligan's Island and Transformers. Aces.

Later on I wouldn't miss an episode of Star Trek TOS and TNG, one in reruns, the other new episodes. And once I also found Twilight Zone, I couldn't stop watching that either. So many amazing episodes :yup:

Those are a few, I'm sure I'll remember more later, sorry for breaking the 4 rule :D

Most of the TV I watched while growing up was older fare in syndication.
The following shows are pretty much in the 'supernatural placed in the mundane world' vein and probably a lot to blame for my weirdness.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir - A show that doesn't get much mention, but probably my all time sentimental favorite. The idea is that a widow and her children move into a haunted house. The ghost is that of a curmudgeonly sea captain who becomes romantically involved with the widow. There was also a movie with a heartwrenching ending.

Bewitched - Doesn't need much explanation, I suppose. Similarly, there was I Dream of Genie.

The Addams Family and to a lesser degree, The Munsters My appreciation of the show, and Carolyn Jones (Morticia) has only grown with time. I still love watching it on TVLand.

Batman - Campy yes, but thoroughly enjoyable.

In my teens, most of my favorites were PBS broadcasts of BBC shows, Dave Allan at Large, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Faulty Towers, Doctor Who, The Young Ones.

ST:TOS, 6 Million Dollar Man, Knight Rider, and lots of silly little 80s programs like Manimal and Automan which utterly failed in the US but were hugely popular in Italy.

I was a pretty active kid and didn't watch much television when I was younger. Used to ride around on my horse with an old tapedeck/radio thingy blaring from my shoulder bag, though. :D

But, my fave programmes when I did watch telly were pretty much the same as Ymir's Blood, only without the Batman. I loved all the sppoky and magical stuff - Bewitched, I Dream of Genie, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, The Munsters and The Addams Family, etc. I also loved The Jetson's, The Flintstones, and Scooby Doo. And then anything that was remotely horsey. Black Beauty (swoon) and the like.

When I was young there wasn't much on television where we lived. The exception were the two years we lived in Memphis and two years in Beaumont, Texas. During those years, my favorites were as follows, and continued to be after moving to a place where television reception was less than optimal.

In the 1960s:

Gilligan's Island

Beverly Hillbillies

Green Acres

Petticoat Junction

(Real highbrow stuff, huh?)

In the 1970s, my late teen years and early adulthood (tastes change):

MASH

All in the Family

Sanford and Son

Dallas

Oh, yeah, I also loved the music shows - Top of the Pops, and locally produced music shows like Happen Inn, The Grunt Machine, Radio With Pictures and Ready to Roll.

Oh, lordie, lordie, I haven't thought of the Ghost and Mrs. Muir for ages.... In the park around the state capital building in Sacramento, there are specimen trees from all over the world, and there is actually a real live Monkey Puzzle Tree!

Back later with my favorite shows - this will take some thought....

I remember those two. They were sent to Italy in retaliation for all the Hercules movies.

No Batman? :batman:

I loved Scooby Doo. The early stuff anyway before they added Scrappy etc... :scooby:

Worked out perfectly for me then. I've got 3 of those Hercules movies on DVD. Inexplicably, they were in the 5 dollars or less bin. :indifferent:

We only had one channel for quite some time ABC, the national station, no ads, better content than most.
Two shows i remember the most are Dr Who and The Goodies. Watched them everyday, and all the reruns for years.
Monkey Magic was also a favourite as a kid.

I remember The Ghost and Mrs Muir aswell, wow its been a while since i thought about that. Loved the movie aswell. Rex Harrison soo cute.

MASH is something i can watch over and over again. It holds up so well.

Heh, I was just joking. :D

I watched both of those shows when they came out AND have several tapes full of Hercules movies. (MST3K and 'regular') One of the tapes got filled up when TNT had a 'Herc-A-Thon' on New Years Eve back in the early nineties.

Just imagine if I had gone along with asking for your favourite? Nah. Breaking the rules at ftf? Like the ages of man you can tell of the three phases of liking programs that appealed at the time.

to all the rule breakers out there. No rules are broken they are just being bent a little. It ain't easy. I could go into a list a thon like everyone else. Remember you can multiple post.

Lovin' it. As it goes along we'll get a chance to get into stats and maybe find the greatest program in the world.(he says seeing the war and topics on the horizon)

Love rememberin' these great programs.

Nananananana -- Batman!

Star Trek: Spock is the greatest!

M*A*S*H: B.J., Radar, and Colonel Potter were my favorite characters.

Cheers,

The first four shows I thought of were:

Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, and M*A*S*H

Yes, the middle two are spin-offs of the first one. I'm not very original.

Some others: The Waltons, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, and Eight is Enough.
