I've never listened to music much in my life. I like it a lot though. This is something I'd like to change. To do it though I need speakers and a free supply of music without jail time. Can you help? What sort of speakers should I invest in? I'm wanting to get something that won't be outdated in a few years when new data ports will be needed to input the digital code in. What's a system that will still be as great in 2030 as it is now; being able to plug future TVs and computers into it ect.? I'm not the kind of guy who likes wasting money.

Just listen to Country and/or Western. That'll put you off liking it. :D

Seriously though I'm not much of an audiophile myself, but I know you can pay a lot or a little. I doubt someone either of us is going to really appreciate the finer points of a tremendously expensive system, so I would recommend that you go to Best Buy or Fry's and buy an all-in-one 'starter' system.

I'll stand by for someone who is an audiophile to correct me.

Spend enough drunken Wednesday nights at a Karaoke bar in rural Texas, and you will grow to love it. Ah garon-tee!

I have a pair of seventeen year old Polk speakers that are still working perfectly. That isn't what you were asking about in the OP, but it is something I know about speakers.

I like PSB speakers. They do double blind listening tests in their research. And though I didn't do my own double blind listening test, I like my PSB Century 1000's quite a bit. (I think that's what they are... I've had them a long time.) B&W's are supposed to be good as well, but are more expensive. PSB is a Canadian company, as I recall, if that makes any difference.

I haven't looked at speakers in years, so my info may be out of date.

I think mine are like a lower-end version of the Stratus Silver on this page
http://www.psbspeakers.com/s/StratusSeries.html Looks just like it anyway. I think mine has a silk dome tweeter instead of titanium though. I think I paid $800 for a pair about 8 years ago.

We have Bose speakers, 5 of them, and the TV, DVD, CD Player, etc all go through the same receiver and sound system. Had them for 12 years and they're still going strong.

I don't have a pair of Infinity speakers, because they got stolen. But they produced an awesome spatial sound. When I get round to replacing my current junk, I'd look at Bose, Harman Kardon (sp?), JBL.
