I broke the string on my compound bow early this moorning when i went out to shoot at the club hall.
ive got 27 stiches on two seperate cuts. one on my for arm from the string itseslf, and the other one on my neck where the lower arm of the bow hit me when it snapped off.
I'll be fine, but i'm pisssed off as hell that my bow is garbage.... that was a new $700 bow, i just bought it last summer.
Watser?

teh cuts arnt really that bad, just skin, the one on my neck is the deeper of the two. the bows arm hit me on the on the side of neck just over where it curves out of my shoulders. could of been much worse though, guys have been killed from breaking strings
the bow is fubar, lower arm just snapped off. when you fire a bow, most of the stored kenitic engery goes in to propelling the arrow. if you fire a bow without an arrow, or snap a string at near full draw i like I did. Then all that energy has no where to go, so it just vibrates the hell out the bow to the point where parts of the bow can break

the problem wiht compound bows is that you have two stings, the draw string, and the pullie cable.
so when i broke draw string and snapped the arm, that arm was still conectec to the pully cable, which caused to pull up towards me instead of flying away.
I change my string and cables 2x a year weather it looks like they need it or not, too big of a saftey isue not to. maby i'll up it to 3x from now on . a bow string can cost over $100.

Or you could switch to a longbow. It would be much more challenging to hunt with, but safer.

Oh, just get a gun. They mostly only ever hurt other people. :unnod:

compound bows are nice thugh, the cam let off allows you to acurately shoot a higher weight bow than you would otherwise. it leads to higherspeeds\heavier impacts. i could easily use 100+lb compound bow if o could find one, the let off allow one to aim wihtout straining, but for traditional I prefer bows in the 60-70lb range.
and I do a have long bow, its some what of beast though and not ideal for hunting, 6 feet long, with 93lb draw at 30". 3 shots in a row and Im too tired to draw it. its defately powerful enugh to hunt with though, I passed an old arrow clean through both sides of steel barrel with it once.
my competition recurve would better suited for hunting, has a more sane 55lb draw, with atachments for a sight and a stabalizer bar.

Or a trebuchet. With Greek Fire as ammo.

Might the bow still be under warranty? It sounds like a mfg error, if the arm snapped.

That's what I was thinking. It could have been much, much worse by a matter of inches. Glad you're still with us.
