holey exploding chestnuts batman!!

I just tried microwaving a few chestnuts, part out of lazyness, part out of curiosity to see what would happen. the results where rather explosive, teh shells poped wiht enough force to break the glass plate beneath them.

so ...my advice on this one would be to not microwave chestnuts.

Do they roast properly when you make a hole in them? I've just been roasting them in a skillet, with a loose cover to keep the explosions from sending horribly delicious shrapnel into my eyes. The popping is how I know they're done. Haven't done it in a couple years, though -- after paying good money for several batches with more than their share of rotten ones, it put me off them.
