View Full Version : 8 hours betwixt shifts

I got off work last night at 10 pm. I have to be back in the morning at 6. I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong! I have worked an average of about 5 hours a day the last two weeks (if you can call it work) so it's not like they are slave-driving me!

It's just that my little puppy lives in his little crate when I'm at work and when I am in bed. Since the little bastard didn't do anything to deserve 24 hours of incarceration, we are playing...

STAY UP ALL NIGHT! YAY!

I'm not tired yet as it's only about an hour past my regular bedtime, and I have gotten a lot of sleep this week, go figure. I'm not really bored, either, because there are a ton of things I could do. But I'm procrastinating. It's midnight in California, and all my friends have gone to bed!

I finished working out. Now I think I'll hit the shower and start very ... v e r y ... slowly getting ready for work.

Tomorrow should be fun. I plan on drinking my weight in coffee. The most interesting part will be to see if I make it to PT and through PT at the end of my shift. At least I have a three-day weekend to recover. Gosh, I'm old!

No point to this post, except to say: "Hi! It's the middle of the night and I'm up!"

Well at least we should have a full gallery by the time to go back on shift.

Ooh, you know, I didn't even think of that. I can add it to the list of constructive activities I'm going to put off doing. :)

You didn't think of that?

How many sub-galleries do you intend to add?

10 bucks says she passed out at the keyboard.

PT? Is that something your unit does, or is it because you're working with Army types?

There were some groups on our base that did some PT, but it was voluntary -- of course, when the whole unit's doing something like that, everyone just does it. I wouldn't have minded doing it they'd worked it into our schedule.

Gah! My sleep schedule is all fucked up! Whoda thunk it? I'm too old for this shit. Nope, I did not pass out at the keyboard. I stayed up all night and cleaned my apartment. Needless to say I did not go to PT on Friday, but rather came home and slept straight through until PT on Saturday, then came back home and slept until Midnight. Now I can't sleep. Yay! Here's hoping I can get back to a reasonable schedule by Monday. It doesn't help that I was on swings the last month, so my body finds nothing wrong with being up all night and sleeping all day (not that it ever did). But I start working mornings again on Tuesday, so like I said, here's hoping.

Brim: I don't believe in sub galleries any more than I believe in sub fora. It's just ... wrong.

vm: :P

Shake: We are mandated to go to PT 3 times per week (4 if we fail the eval), and we have several sessions to choose from (5 per day Mon to Sat, and 1 on Sun). It's something our unit does because we are psycho. But I like it because if we didn't have it, my fat ass would probably not exercise (and probably would not have made it out of bed at all today). We get to do it on company time, so that's pretty damn cool.

our PT sucks ass, we have the dreaded WALL from hell to get our happy butts over .....you cannot be "old", you sound in fine shape! we have been on 12's for several years, 1800 to 0600 or the reverse. supposedly that gives us two three-day weekends off per month. only we are so short-staffed we are ordered at gunpoint to do 12 on our days off. the only saving grace is they have to give us one day if we do 8 straight, we can be written up for doing more than 8 even if we were ordered to!! catch- 22 lives. the upshot is, i don't know anyone who is not reeling from utter and complete mind-bending exhaustion. that sleep schedule thing...you might as well accept that you will never be a 'normal' human being...i have been on "night shift" forever and recoil at daylight like :dracula: :bat:

Yeah, that's why I would have not minded if we'd had to do some. As it was, I got put on the now non-existant ( :fuming: - don't get me started) fat-boy weight management program (WMP) more than once.

Anyhoo, yeah swings kinda sucks and I thought I hate mids even more, but mids (11:30pm - 7:30am) is da bomb shift! Except for when your shop schedules a meeting you must attend at oh, say 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

Well, I'm back on mornings starting tomorrow, until such time as the Chief gets off of leave and decides where he wants me. I am to understand that people in my job have no such thing as a steady schedule. Our shop is open 24/7, so there's no telling when I'll be working. The current trend is six on, three off, though, which sounds kinda neat I guess.
