Tasha is alright, but she's a far cry from Deanna.

^Strictly speaking in certain hormonal terms here. Under the circumstances, I couldn't help having the crush I had.Phil Farrand, author of The Nitpicker's Guides, often complained about the way Troi was costumed and filmed. "Why does Troi get to wear the skin-tight bunny suit? ... Why would Troi want to wear the bunny suit? ... How would you react to a psychologist dressed like this?"[1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deanna_Troi#Scholarly_and_fan_reception)]

He has a point... but like I said, I didn't choose the crush; it just happened.

Eh, I never much cared for Counselor Troi ("Counselor Cleavage," as she was widely-known). Not because she wasn't a lovely woman, but because her character was so utterly useless -- insultingly so, in fact. "Captain, I sense the blindingly-obvious." It was so blatantly apparent that her only real reason to be on the Enterprise's bridge was as set decoration.

Though she was annoying at first, I thought Commander Shelby was much more interesting.

But Jadzia Dax always did it for me: smart, self-confident, and drop-dead gorgeous.

Wonderbread Leotard
12-20-2008, 10:20 PM
Oh, I agree that Shelby was a much more interesting female character. In retrospect, I also agree with some of the criticisms ala "Counselor Cleavage". Though the character of Troi did eventually undergo some needed development, there was always a degree of "sexism" in the role. Rationally, I do have a problem with that. I was a horny teenager with a crush and I'm honest enough to admit it.

Edit: Dax is pretty good-looking.

I was wondering if this would come up. Finding Troi attractive does pretty well demolish any illusions to the effect that I'm a :pedobear:.Only if you were under the impression that in order to be a pedo, you must only ever be attracted to children.

An impression that would be wrong.

Having a recurrent, intense sexual urges towards young girls and fantasies about raping girls as young as 10 pretty much qualifies you to be considered a :pedobear:
http://www.brotherhoodofbaldpeople.com/blog/resserver.php?blogId=1&resource=patrick%2520stewart.jpgI mean, I'm not really into older men, but if I was gonna go with an older bald man, Patrick Stewart circa TNG would be a good choice.

Only if you were under the impression that in order to be a pedo, you must only ever be attracted to children. No, I'm familiar with the various definitions and dimensions (e.g., exclusive vs. non-exclusive). To expand on what I was saying: it's the fact that I'd rather have sex with a 30 or even 40-something Troi than an actual undeveloped prepubescent. Youthful is hot, but I prefer that there be some development!

Am I attracted to pubescent females? Yes, but that's pedophilia only if pedophilia is the norm.

Anyway, I didn't start this thread for a debate over pedophilia. OTOH, I am mildly interested in why bey had figured that I'd prefer to fuck Worf. :D

I think it is interesting how some people feel compelled to introduce, as fact, claims that are essentially unverifiable. As if by doing so they have somehow actually demonstrated something.

I think it is interesting how some people feel compelled to introduce, as fact, claims that are essentially unverifiable. As if by doing so they have somehow actually demonstrated something. You could say that about any man who calls himself heterosexual (for example). Of course technically nothing has been demonstrated per se, but some discussions require that certain ideas be taken on faith.

I'm particularly sexually attracted to females with development. Of course I could be just saying that, much as erimir could be just saying that he's homosexual, etc.

There is a difference between disclosing unverifiable personal information in the course of a discussion and trying to introduce that same information as if it constituted supporting evidence for an argument.

You are right though, some things do need to be taken on faith. As far as I am concerned you have not demonstrated that there is any reason to take anything you say on faith. Rather, you have demonstrated the contrary.

Larsen's first starship assignment was the USS Arapaho as a junior tactical officer. She was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and transferred to the USS Parsifal as its Chief Tactical Officer in 2368.

In 2375 she was transferred to the USS Lionheart and promoted to Commander, serving as the ship's first officer. In 2378 she was assigned to the USS Dauntless as first officer. There's a TNG novel by John Peel called Here There Be Dragons (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Here_There_Be_Dragons) that has Ro being held as a German duke's sex slave!

When Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise™ receive news of a human planet hidden in the center of an immense stellar cloud, they immediately investigate.

Penetrating the cloud, the Starship crew is shocked to discover a world of knights and serfs lifted right out of Earth's Middle Ages [by the Preservers, a Trek species some of you may recall -- Sov]. Ruthlessly exploiting the planet is a ring of interstellar trophy hunters preying on the immense, native dragon-lizards twenty-feet tall and armored like tanks.

Beaming down, an away team soon becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue and murder. Taken prisoner, Picard, Riker, Data and Ro must somehow escape and stop the hunters or face destruction from the hunters' weapon, based on an advanced technology capable of utterly annihilating the Starship Enterprise™.

As an aside, it is perhaps ironic that I can watch/read/play Trek without being turned off by (say) the unrealistic portrayal of human nature. In fantasy, it somehow does not bother me. This is extra funny considering that even some Trek writers like Melinda Snodgrass were bothered by how goodie-twoshoes people were often portrayed in TNG especially.

I can enjoy fiction without it always reflecting my real life values or goals in every way. On the other hand, I seriously do appreciate the pro-learning/exploration ethos on the series. It's annoying how many people pretend that exploration has to have a fundamental motivation beyond boldness, romance/adventure, and curiosity -- especially economic.
