:listenin: you would not believe this is Rod Stewart! he has 3 CDs, American Songbooks l, ll, and lll. they are lush, tender, galvanizing in their simple beauty. if you have a romantic soul, these are for you. mellow and unpretentious, sung the way they were meant to be sung. some examples of the fare....classics all...the way you look tonight, moonglow, i'll be seeing you, the nearness of you, it had to be you, i'm in the mood for love, till there was you, as time goes by, our love is here to stay, someone to watch over me, time after time...and so much more. i can't say anything more than these are heartmeltingly lovely.

I guess I'm not very romantic, huh?

I'm sure I like many of those songs, lady cop, when sung by the likes of Ella or Frank or Louis Armstrong. But Rod Stewart? Isn't just kind of sad when he does romantic standards? To me it's like the old guy version of when he donned that shiny lycra catsuit and sang "Do You Think I'm Sexy" to cash in on disco, ya know?
And, no, luna, you are totally not romantic. Although I bet Billie Holiday can turn you into a puddle of goo. ;)

I don't think it's necessarily sappy to like those songs. As I said, I like many versions of them. It's just that it feels like a cop-out coming from a declining rocker like Stewart. That's my gut feeling anyway; I'd have to hear the arrangements first before I could judge.

you know i would normally be the first to scoff at what i perceived to be elevator music...i'm the passionate type, grand Italian opera and serious ballsy blues. maybe it's just my mood lately, but i have to say i also like big band and the songs of my Mom and Dad's generation, so when i heard these albums, in an intimate setting, i didn't have a clue it WAS Rod Stewart. it was simply perfect at the moment. :serenade:

Oh, I see. I love quality big band, myself. I don't consider it elevator music at all, mainly because big, loud brass sections don't really work in the midi file world of elevator instrumentals. I adore opera, but I could listen to Frank singing "Oh You Crazy Moon" forever. :)

Here is a link to this collection to include some song samples:

I think that they are rather good.
If you really are a fan of this style of music, ladycop...you should also give Harry Connick, Jr. and Diana Krall a try (it's more their venue and incredibly :lovey: )
