"That's what she said!"

"That's what he said!"

Please...stop. It's moronic. :glare:

Yes I'm looking at you.

Where is that from anyway? I see it all over the place and I'm not even sure how it all originated.

Tracking the etymology of this phrase may prove difficult. However, the most recent cause de jour is linked to Steve Carell's character in The Office who uses the phrase almost as incessantly as I do.

I'd like to note that I was fully intending to be good this year and post that as infrequently as I dare. But, c'mon, you can't just call me out on it like this my friend, cappuccino!

But then, let it be said that the BrotherMan is a modern man who is, or can be, sensitive for the ladies (:tsktsk:). I'd like to nominate this thread as the Official :ff: "That's what she said!" Thread. To whit, I submit the following format:

blah blah blah

:bunnythrust: That's what she said! :bunnythrust:

Though ":bunnythrust:" be not necessary, nor emphasis as added. This shall not be the sole confines of ":bunnythrust:" nor "That's what she said!"; but a bastion of lulz so that they may not mar :drama: the srs threads.

I would actually be sad if Brotherman never said that again. :sadcheer:

It also made a resurgence in the web comic xkcd.

xkcd - A Webcomic - That's What SHE Said (http://xkcd.com/174/)

At :ff:, I may have started it. And for that I apologize.

That's what she said.

But..but...how else do you expect me to get through the day? Won't you think of the poor, sex deprived biochemgirls out there? :sniffle:

What about "That's what biochemgirl said"? It'd probably technically be true.

At least get a bit more inventive with it. Like the old "... as the actress said to the bishop" catchphrase.

A little steam clears out the clogged passageways, like taking a hot shower. It's also fairly easy to swallow when your throat is sore.

:bunnythrust: That's what she (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=659082&postcount=11) said! :bunnythrust:

Not a "That's What She Said" but enough lulzy to disrupt a good thread (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19934).

Go back the way you came towards the Capitoline and this time take the Via Aracoeli. There's a fancy as hell Jesuit church at the end of it (Chiesa del Gesu) which I also loved as a kid because of the enormous balls of lapis lazuli affixed to the corners of the ceiling.
Read all about it! livius loves big blue balls!

Wiki attributes the saying to the movie "Wayne's World" in 1992.

But Michael Scott brought it back to the mainstream in a big way.

Not surprisingly, since most of Michael's "pop culture" references are usually 10-20 years out of date, and come from that immature (beavis and butthead, wayne's world) or nerdy (monty python, MST3k) place. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :glare:

Bah, I remember the phrase existing before that. It always struck me as a very old joke. It's probably been around since time immemorial.

I bet you thought I was gonna say "That's what she said" didn't you?

I think you are exactly right, the point is that Michael is just way out-of-date. Also, I read somewhere that the boss in the British version used the same phrase, so it may be the writers are just giving some props.
