Don't I hold the current title here? If I don't defend it, do I still get to keep it?

Leesifer
02-03-2009, 03:22 PM
No! You must defend your title. Or you can play poker with the rest of us.

Can we get a clue on the logistics before this starts?

Actually, I found a good summary here (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=259505&postcount=41).

Edit: Sorry Lees, I don't know how the heck that happened, I just copied Crumb's list!

Are you talking about the chips or the bunny thrust, now?

slimshady2357
02-06-2009, 04:13 PM
Oh, I meant to say that if you know for sure what your next move will be, regardless of what anyone inbetween does, you can PM it to me in advance if you are going to be away for a little while.

For instance, you might have a crap hand and know you are going to fold pre-flop (because you don't want to call the blinds) and there are 5 people to go before you. Just PM me telling me you want to fold and I will post it when I see it's your turn.

Other times might be when you want to go all-in or just want to check if you can or fold if there has been a bet.

If your PM sees vague or doesn't take something into account I will try to PM you back, should you not receive it, I will not make a move until you come back.

Kael,

You had the first move after the flop (this is the first hand I am talking about). You folded. This is the situation I was talking about before, you don't need to fold here, you can just 'check'. It means you don't bet, but you don't fold. If you just 'check' instead and no one behind you bets, you will get to see the fourth card (the turn card) for free. That card and maybe the river (5th card) could make a much better hand for you. Since it costs you nothing, there is point in folding in a situation like that.

Someone DID bet behind you, so you could then fold anyway when it comes around to your turn to call, raise or fold to that bet.

Everyone does this when they first start playing, so don't feel bad. I'm just hoping other new people will see this and learn something too :)

Leesifer

I've played before and I still do that. :duh:

Nightson
02-09-2009, 02:20 AM
Well, it's possible to know almost certainly that you're not going to get any help, if you were holding something like 4 and 5 of spades and the river comes down Ace King and Jack of hearts the chances of you not needing to fold are astronomical.

wei yau
02-09-2009, 02:42 PM
I did the right thing by folding, since I had nothing. Imagine my surprise that by the time all is said and done, I would've had a straight.

Figures.

livius drusus
02-09-2009, 02:47 PM
I would have been one card short of a straight. :pleased:

Leesifer
02-09-2009, 03:00 PM
I would have had 3 of a kind

Crumb
02-09-2009, 04:07 PM
1. livius drusus (50)
2. Leesifer (49) D
3. wei yau (48) posts 1
4. Crumb (48) posts 2
5. Kael (42) <-- first to move
6. Nightson (99)
7. 1Samuel8 (26)
8. Zehava (38)
9. Sun Tzu (50)

Shouldn't I have 46 and wei 47?

Is anyone else intensely amused when Zehava, and more importantly Zehava's Avatar, folds?

Hee! Part of me was hoping you'd lose Samuel. Just because of all the bragging.

I do that too - and usually lose.

Good hand guys.

I'm back. Sorry I was away, was gonna check in online during my absence, but was not able to.

Anyhoo, I'm back now and will play the next hand.

slimshady2357
02-28-2009, 02:45 PM
I'm not much for time limits because I feel the game can just mosey along at it's own pace. However, eventually it risks everyone losing all interest.

So how about we say that if Sun hasn't posted his move by Monday morning my time, I will just fold him and we can move on. The weekend isn't too busy here anyway, so I think we can wait another 48 hours or so.

What say you!?

So, this has slowed down substantially. That's ok with me though. Hopefully I won't be the one who forgets to check the game thread for half a week...

Also, thanks for that 9 last hand, Slim. That was a close one.

Slim,
We should be raising the blinds at the next round. The dealing has made a full cycle around the table.

Also, I have a special request. When you PM the hands, can you click on the "Request a read receipt for this message" in the Miscellaneous Options section at the bottom?

*cries* Well, that is what happens when you talk too much at the table! You may as well have told everybody what you had.

Hey! I just noticed something! Take a look at the very first hand (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=664908&postcount=30) of this game! We flopped a pair of 7s again and your pair of 8s beat my lowly pair of community 7s and now, the tables turned. Freaky.

Sorry, I am just being an asshole. I have a lot of respect for your play. You were holding a 2-7 -- sure, they were suited but still, not very strong -- and you called a pre-flop bet. That takes guts. Before that hand, I was hoping to go head to head with you. Your betting is the most interesting. Everybody else seems to be treating it like a game of bingo.

wei yau
04-22-2009, 03:54 PM
(flipped a coin and wei gets the extra chip)

That's right! Coin toss FTW!

Suck it!

What? I'll take whatever minor victories I can against Samuel's intimidating cache of chips
