I heard a song co-written and performed by John Lee Hooker and Carlos Santana this morning which I really liked. It's Chill Out (Things Gonna Change) and chair-dancing was definitely involved.

I know. I'm sure I'm terribly impure to have liked anything JLH made after 1980, but them's the breaks. I just thought the combination of Santana's usual guitaring, the Latin percussion in the background, and then John Lee's deep, classic blues voice was great to listen to, one of those things you would never have put together in the first place but then turn out to work almost miraculously.

Feel free to tell me what a vulgarian I am. Alternatively, you could tell me you know whereof I speak and bring up any weird combinations you found successful, much to your surprise.

I thought of one that I heard one time only. I heard John and Bonnie Raitt sang "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better." from Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun on NPR. It was great fun to hear, they're both very good at sangin'. John was in that musical back in the late 1950s, even doing a TV version. I understand he and Bonnie made an album (Is that what they call it these days?) together.
