inland wave and I went out and tried to give the economy a jump-start. We bought a new clothes dryer at Best Buy. The sales staff seem kind of hungry, overly eager to make a sale. We may go back and buy a flat panel HDTV set they have on special today, and I'm thinking about getting an HP Mini 1000 notebook as well.

I had to motivate the economy last week with a new Dell flat screen monitor. My 11 year old IBM CRT went kaplooie. I've now got a bigger brighter view of you bunch of reprobates.

I've been selling and giving away a bunch of shit on craigslist, freecycle, and ebay. Because I hate America. I'm supposed to go clothes shopping in a few weeks, though, and I'm looking forward to that.

I have pretty much stopped buying things other than food and a tank of gas once a month or so. I have been actively getting rid of things. Take that America.

Why do you hate America?
Your attitude is causing immense social damage to America. Why do you have a social-damage agenda?

I have been helping by buying more clothes, cuz a man can never own too many quality dress shirts.

I've continued my support of baristas with funky tattoos and gigs in bands, by tipping generously at coffee shops.

How much do you hate that taco bell commercial where the one guy talks the other guy into not tipping the barista because he could use that change to get more meat on his burrito or whatever?

I hate it just from your description already. I can't remember the last time I watched TV.

I continue my support of the publishing industry. There's just too many forests on this planet. I do my part, but it's in small and obscure places.
I did go out and buy sixteen chicks, but I hardly think that qualifies for either extravagance or optimism. Seems rather fatalist on my part, actually.
I've a copy of Schumacher, so I probably qualify as an underground suspect.

I'm going out to eat at our favorite :italy: restaurant shortly, at which time, I'll be filling my gas tank :inmycar:.
I spent :dollah:100 on :dog: & :cat: food this week and I need to buy Frontline flea and tick stuff for my 7 animals shorly. :spend:
I'll be spending about :dollah:100 on food and sundry items for the house tomorrow. :cart:
My husband's motorcycle ate up about :dollah:700 in maintenance costs this week. His truck ate up :dollah:100 in maintenance costs last week.
Okay.. that's enough. If I keep going, I'll end up worrying about money all day (as if I wouldn't have anyway to some degree).
We bought a new computer a bit ago for my wife, so she'd stop using mine...
We also just bought some new clothes for both of us. Oh, and a freezer.

Wait...wait...
I AM doing my part!
We're having the heat pump installed next week. I just shelled out a tidy sum on credit for that. The money shuffle to get it down to the lowest possible interest charge has yet to occur.
But wait...They tell me my gas company won't be happy with this decision.
Walter, I'm sorry.

We went back to Best Buy and I bought a HP computer. Ding is going to take over my latitude c400 for net surfing. The TV maybe someday, but I am satisfied with the 2 we have for now. Although a flat panel would be sweet, it is very low on the current priority list.

Lessee, aside from my normal weekend grocery shopping I bought:
8 pair of underwear
two packs of flower seeds
a rake
a trowel
Oh and last night we had pizza and I had a couple of beers.
Does that count?

There is that...but that happens exceedingly rarely, since most of the electricity around here is hydro (not that the surplus generators aren't there, they are, but only run in peak demand periods). But my electricity generator does run a coal-powered generation plant in Boardman, right on the Columbia.

Thanks to my valiant effort of the last week or so, the shoe making industry should be able to make it without a bailout. Frickin' expensive running shoes and soccer shoes. I think they got together in my closet and decided to fall apart at the same time just to fuck with me.

I broke weak and stimulated the bookseller's industry by purchasing Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey and Maturin Omnibus. And then I stimulated the local government by getting a ticket (for which I could have bought two more omnibuses) on my bicycle for running a stop sign.
Some more good came out of it because I just learned the plural of omnibus is omnibuses.

I'm doing my part...
Spent $600 on studded tires during our snow storm late last year. Spent another $300 when I went to put the all seasons back on as 2 of the tires were completely shot.
Just this morning bought some DVDs and games from Amazon. Our D&D group started back up so I bought some new miniatures/paints/etc., and and buying more still.
I so need a new HDTV, not going to bother to get a converter for my ~20 year old set. That means I really should get a blue-ray player as well. Holding off on those though until I absolutely have to.
The really big purchase, i.e. house, is off for now. Probably won't start looking again until next year when the economy hopefully picks up. To risky now for such a large purchase when I can't guarantee that I'll have a job tomorrow let alone in a year.
ETA: Had to buy a new motherboard for the PC I put together last year just so I could play WAR.

Just had a quote for fitting a new back door. They want £1400 (about $2000 U.S.) which seems a bit steep to me. I think I may be fitting a new back door myself for less than half that amount.

I think BCF is about comparable to Marshall's or TJ Maxx as far as pricing, but with a more organized layout and better brands. Like Marshall's prices in a dept store environment. It's win-win.

I bought $200 worth of clothes at the big guys store, a Wahl hair clipper set at Big Lots, and will shortly dish out about $750 to the auto mechanic. The hair clippers cost $14. A haircut is usually $10 plus a $2 tip. One more haircut like the one I gave myself and I will be aHEAD of the game.
It was the first haircut I ever gave and the first I ever gave myself. Is it perfect? Of course not, I botched it like almost everything else I do. But, I'm wearing the nearly free haircut with the pride of a frugal Flowbee (http://www.flowbee.com/) flaunter.
[Edit:] Wait, why do I hate barbers and hair stylists? Because I spent umpty-kajillion dollars over the last couple years on getting one trained and now can't get a haircut when I ask for it.

iw's new laptop is a HP with a dual core processor, 4MB RAM, 320GB HD, 16" screen, etc. on sale at Best Buy for $649. The dryer cost less by over a hundred dollars. When she gets all the files transferred I get her old Dell, a baby-sized one, 1GB RAM, 60GB HD, 14" screen that she paid $300 for a couple years ago. I'm still the proud possessor of an HP desktop that rivals her new laptop except in the RAM department, though with very little money I could get there too. All this instead of me getting that new HP mini 1000.
All this new hardware inspired me to clean up a little around here. I took two non-working TVs and two boxes full of old cellphones, modems, cameras, wires, routers, answering machines, paper shredder, Walkmans, etc. to Best Buy for recycling. I was supposed to pay $10 each to dispose of the TVs but no one seemed to know what to do about the recycling stuff, so I just left the shopping cart full of stuff sitting there by customer service.

Uh, lessee.
This week I ordered 3 books from Amazon. (I'm finally popping my Pratchett cherry and I also ordered a book about flower gardening.)
We went out to dinner, twice.
I bought a blouse and a beard trimmer. (Don't ask. :brooding: )
That's it for extras. Everything else was our normal bills and grocery shopping.
