...and inevitably, ran into a tree skiing and split the bottom lip wide open! (Blood everywhere, I hope that it will come out of the jacket.) Also, my front right tooth is partially missing. It's super-apropos for NASCAR tomorrow.

I need to take fotos (as is my custom with self-inflicted injury) but my motherfucking digital camera battery is dead!!! :sadcheer:

Damn. I can't believe how lucky you were to just get some easily fixable minor mouth damage after skiing into a tree. Congratulations.

Oh, and my deepest condolences on the upcoming NASCAR event.

Well I hope you really gave that tree what for!

Oh and I hope your tooth survives intact.

Hey! I never saw the black-eye pictures of yore. Are they still around?

Damn you Lauri!

Do you have any idea how valuable trees are? We are losing more of them by the minute, and it's bad enough without you taking it upon yourself to go massacre a random spruce, just so you can have a good time on the slopes. Next time just pack an axe off to aspen and go hawg-wild will ya!

EVIL, EVIL, woman!

I don't think that I hurt the tree... it was more of a one-sided affair that way

Hehe, they should be (it rhymes! I'm a poet who didn't know it)

I think that it was in the fall (perhaps August or September).

...it was more of a one-sided affair...You actually had an affair with it? You know, I never knew they meant it literally when they say "I'd hit that!"

Be careful! Trees may be valuable, but there's only one of you.

I now see you as being fully accident prone. Is anyone else concerned that she's moved on from fluffy ground cover and (presumably) stationary trees made of relatively soft material :missing: to an event where large, extremely heavy objects made of forged steel and full of internal combustion will be traveling in great numbers around on a hard surface?!!! :driving: :egad:

That brings back some memories, except with me it was sledding, not skiing. :seestars: :help:

You have my sympathies, for what they're worth.

LOL! I totally survived though, with only minor injuries of a psychic nature, on account of extended exposure to rednecks*. :slide:

It took years in Canada but, eventually, most hockey players today wear mouth guards. Those that don't have that hockey puck mouth look that you are beginning to get with your skiing with trees that are not keeping up with the speed of the skiing traffic.

Do you think that the tree jumped in front of you to avenge his cousin that you were wearing on your feet? :chin: But i digress...

Don't you think that it should be mandatory to wear mouth guards while skiing where there are trees? You could start a petition and launch it against them if they don't give you a cut of the profits from the mouth guard sales :D

My sympathy for the bump on the slopes. Next time you are out there take  with you and the trees will stay out of your way.

Reminds me of a practical joke we played on the others in our skiing party one fine winter day in Idaho some mumblety years ago (back when I was young and still knew everything). Downhill, not cross-country.

We were skiing in the mountains north of Boise and playing follow-the-leader through the trees (off the main slopes). Bogus Basin (http://bogusbasin.com/) for those who are terminally curious. My room-mate and I got far enough ahead of the rest of the pack that we decide to play a prank.

Fresh powder everywhere and no ski tracks except ours. Greg would follow in my tracks and when we got to a certain tree up ahead, I would lift my right ski and go left of the tree, and he would lift his left ski and go right of the tree. This left a single pair of ski tracks in the snow that went on both sides of the tree. Impossible for a single person to make in one pass.

We didn't take any pictures, but this should give you some idea:
http://www.polarityservices.com/Personal/Skiing/1998/Images/GileSki2.jpg

Actually, the scenery looked more like this, as I recall:
http://www.terrymorse.com/ski/trip/tahoe010209/P2120027.jpg

The trees were dense enough that you could lose sight of the people following us, but no so dense that we couldn't go fast enough to lose them.

It never occurred to us that anyone would actually run into the tree trying to follow us. Fortunately, none in our party did. We didn't figure anyone would actually be fooled, but just that it would be a good giggle at first sight.

You are lucky to come away with only a broken tooth and split lip. The guy who sat just behind me in AP Calculus in high school got killed when he skied (is that the plural of 'to ski'? Just doesn't look right) into a tree over February break. I always thought it was a shitty reason to get everyone together during the break. It also sucked coming in Monday morning and seeing the seat which would remain empty for the rest of the year.
:sadbye: :sadnana:

Anyway, glad to hear you're OK. Be careful.

No, but it is the past tense.

Yay, my tooth is fixed! I thought it was going to require a cap or veneer, but a little bonding did the trick, it's good as new. :beaugest: I took a vow of silence from Monday to Wednesday  'cuz it just hurt too damn much to talk (lip kept opening back up). Anyway, it's well on its way to healing as I am chilling out in Palm Springs again for a coupla days.
