To get to this stage, anyone who wants to be Canidate has had to learn to enjoy the flavor of pressure-group dick. The question is: will the Smiler stagger on stage with lungs half-full of steaming lobbyist semen? Or will he merely be licking his lips?

on a politician being named canidate for his party in the presidential election.

on voting,

Imagine you're locked in a huge underground nightclub filled with sinners, whores, freaks and unnameable things that rape pitbulls for fun. and you ain't allowed out until you all vote on what your'e going to do tonight. You like to put your feet up and watch "Republican Party Reservation." They like to have sex with normal people using knives, guns, and brand new sexual organs that you did not know existed. So you vote for television and everyone else, as far as your eyes can see, votes to fuck you with switchblades.

the quotes above are from Transmetropolitan written by Warren Ellis. The main character, spider jerusalem is an outlaw journalist who hates the city he lives in and does lots of drugs. The comic has a bunch of social commentary in a general sense and often is funny as hell. Like I said in the thread title it is set in the future and spider is the hunter s thompson of the future. I woner if Thompson ever read transmet and what he thought of it.

Wow, thanks for the post.

I disagree with ellis's view on suicide.

I kinda agree with him, 'cos I'm the sorta stubborn bastard who'd try to stick things out to the bitter end. I suppose "reeks of weakness" is a bit harsh, but Ellis ain't exactly one to mince his words, is he? Anyway, that piece by him reveals a bit about that last little trick Spider plays on the readers in transmet.

That is where Transmet belongs, up there with preacher and sin city, in my ever so humble opinion.

Yeah, I'd probably put transmet in the top 5.
