I flew from Knoxville to Detroit (hey Michiganders, it looks nice from the air! I flew over a lovely middle-class suburb), then to Los Angeles. I met up with my friend Jenn, who took me to In-n-Out. :D Then we came into the customs terminal and waited for like an hour. I finally figured "bugger this," and we went outside to go to the Via Australia desk. I saw him standing there, thank fuck. We kissed, and Jenn made a quiet exit.
We took the shuttle to the hotel (holy Christ, LAX is fucking ginormous). We stayed at the Custom Hotel (www.customhotel.com). It was interestingly modern, as you can see from the interior design on the page. There were also wooden sheep in the lobby. The elevators had a picture of a person on the wall of each car. As you traveled, a voice would pipe over the speaker - one of a woman ranting in Spanish, another a little Chipmunk voice saying "Please, please, don't!" It was creepy.
We got to our room and immediately fell onto the bed, kissing, and stayed like that for about 45 minutes.
We spent one day walking all around North Hollywood, which was delightfully seedy. We saw the Walk of Fame, the Kodak Theater (which had shops and lit boards with iron years on it telling the Best Picture that year), and lots of cool stuff like the Chinese Theater. I also dragged him to boutiques like Betsey Johnson and Tarina Tarantino. I wish I’d gone into the Alexander McQueen shop. We took a cab to the Hollywood Sign, and went back to the hotel.
Our hotel had a cool bar/pool across the street. The first night we went, the place was hosting a party for the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association. The second night was a wrap party for South Park. Unfortunately, I didn’t recognize Matt & Trey. L
The next day, we went to Long Beach and took a lovely ferry ride out to Catalina Island. We walked around a bit. It’s a small little community with cute little shop fronts and lots of hotels, and huge houses up in the hills. People get around on golf carts! So cute.
The wedding couple stayed in this gorgeous beach house that was like a big condo, and the deck was the site of the wedding. I adored his family, and they seemed to really like me. ^^.
The next day we left and flew back to Knoxville (separate flights, sadly). We met up with some of my friends (Rachel told me she’d never seen me beaming like that). My mom really liked him, but my dad only met him briefly.
