Is there anyway to get notices on the main forum page of new entries/pictures/comments/replies to the gallery or journal sections? Maybe just a picture or few words that let one know if there was something new there and a link to them. This would certainly increase traffic to those parts of the forum.

That's a good idea, Crumb. We'll put it on the list of features to investigate.

What do you mean by main forum page, Crumb? The homepage or the forum index?

Oh well I meant the forum index.
Thanks guys. :)
I like both the gallery and the journals the way they currently are. The journals at least give a little feeling of intimacy; they are off to themselves, not pushed on others, people occasionally stumbling across public entries that were intended to be marked private:P:D.
The pictures, well, they too feel intimate. Occasionally we stumble in there to see a member's pic and then leave, shutting the door respectfully behind us.

I just brought this up, because it took me so long to realize the journal was there, and seeing many folks that did not hear the news about the gallery. I do understand what you mean Beth and I think that is important for the journals more that the gallery though. Meh. It was just a suggestion.

Not a bad suggestion, either. Some folks are still just finding out (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=47113&postcount=14) that we have a gallery.

As you may have noticed, we've added selections from the gallery on the forum index (down near the bottom) and a single image on the homepage (http://www.freethought-forum.com/?). These are just random images from the gallery, excluding pictures posted in the Member galleries (for privacy). We've decided at this juncture not to implement any notification of new journal entries on the index, so the existence of the journal system can remain relatively obscured.
Please let us know if you have any comments, complaints or suggestions about this.

coo' man, coo'
I like it. :) I just noticed it when I logged in this morning. I am also glad that the new journal entries did not get placed on the front page. Thank you.

A point which may be obvious but I think is nonetheless worth making explicit is that unregistered/logged out users can't see the pictures on the homepage and forum home. Also, if you've put a personal picture in Travel, say, and would rather it not appear in the random pic rotation out here, you should move it to your folder in the Members Gallery.
