Youtube is blocked here, but I'm assuming that's the DEA agent who shoots himself in the foot just after saying "I'm the only person professional enough to carry this gun?"

He was in the news afterwards, trying to sue for destruction of character or some such due to the fact it was put on the internet. No idea if he won or not. (My guess is 'no')

NTMAh, here we go. He sued the U.S. federal government:

DEA Agent Who Shot Self In Foot Sues Uncle Sam - April 11, 2006 (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0411061foot1.html)
http://www.snopes.com/photos/accident/gunsafety.asp

I haven't looked up the outcome of the suit. But like you I doubt it'll be a win.

Anyway, I'm glad that strict gun control is around to keep such dangerous implements in the hands of the only people qualified enough to handle them.

mah na mah naSome non-nonsense:

Couric:
"In the last month, seven mass shootings have claimed the lives of 53 people...

"The enormity of these tragedies makes them front page news. But, on average, 32 people die every day in gun-related violence."

The enormous tragedy is, it's not front-page news. But, on average, 113 people died every day in a vehicle-related death in 2008. This is down about ten percent from the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Countering Couric: More People Die In Traffic Accidents Than Gun Violence | NewsBusters.org (http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mike-sargent/2009/04/08/countering-couric-more-people-die-traffic-accidents-gun-violence)

Thus, several times more people die of vehicular violence than gun violence yet we don't see any prominent watchdog groups raising a ruckus about that.

If you support anti-gun hysteria, you're such a weenie that the only good reason for strict gun control would be to keep you from using guns on yourself as dildos.

So, is there an agent who managed to run over his own foot?

32 people a day dead in gun related violence? Could be they didn't have to be dead.

So, is there an agent who managed to run over his own foot? There are agents who manage to do much worse than that with motor vehicles. 32 people a day dead in gun related violence? Could be they didn't have to be dead.Yes, let's overprotect everybody to the point that we may as well have them wear diapers into adulthood. The notion that there's some God-given right for individuals to own guns is unfounded superstition but so is anti-gun hysteria. If deadly risk is really the concern then get rid of cars first. You'd also handily eliminate a source of pollution far bigger than those much-maligned tobacco products.

MADD?

The article points out, reasonably enough, that MADD aren't concerned with deaths by vehicle as a general issue, merely deaths caused by vehicles whose drivers happen to be drunk.

Well "vehicular violence" isn't exactly well defined, if it's related to drunken driving the MADD. If it's related to unsafe autos then Consumer Reports, Department(s) of Transportation, would be more involved, both federal and State.
If it's related to an actual criminal case, then you have state, local or city police involvement.

NTMTrue. Often, guns are treated about like magical fetish objects. It's like they have demonic powers that transform otherwise laid-back drunkards or law-abiding ghetto-dwellers into violent maniacs. So, the supposed solution is to go after the witches and warlocks who made the evil objects available, or in this case the gun manufacturers and distributors who made the guns available. Of course, recognizing recidivist violent criminals who make war on the community as responsible for their own actions and wholeheartedly smashing them would be racist...
