So I started back in school on Friday. Its been pretty good so far. I got my parking permit on Thursday and found out that the spot is guaranteed. Thats right folks, guaranteed parking at la universidad de georgia.

Suck it bitches.

I'm jealous. My parking permit at school gave me the right to try to park my car in the main lot. Which was completely full more often than not.

Holy shit, guaranteed parking? That is insanely unheard of. I'm pretty jealous but also increasingly skeptical about this "University" of Georgia.

I know it is insane. The parking lady told me that there wasnt a spot in the lot that I have a permit for that I should call them and that they would give me somewhere else to park and that they would "find out why" there was no spot available.

I was talking to someone that's in my biolab and found out that they no longer let freshman have parking permits, but fuck the freshmen, is what I say.

Thats how it was 10 years ago at uga as well. The only guaranteed parking was two of the decks which cost more and since it was the only guaranteed parking gettting a deck permit was all but impossible.

So when I had a car and lived on campus I had to buy the freshmen permit where you park in the next state. Then after a semester they bumped me up to the next county, I guess because people dropped out or whatever. Then the next year I got the privilege of paying a couple hundred dollars more to park in the garage, which I have to admit was totally worth it, because I was spending that much on parking tickets to begin with.

Aww, I would have been sad if I were a freshman. My car and the ability to go home every other weekend is the only reason I stayed at UGA. I was terribly homesick.

UGA has been trying to make campus less car-centered. When I started there, people would actually drive themselves to different classes throughout the day, which was ridiculous. Especially because there is no way that it was quicker/easier to walk to your car, drive through/around campus, find a new parking spot, and walk to class instead of just walking or walking and taking the bus.

I had this as well. There was a shuttle bus that ran to and from the lot, which I would take on the weekends to pick up my car so I could visit home or tool around or whatever, but during the week it was all about biking or walking. I lived on campus, though, so it worked.

When I went to college they still had hitching posts curbside, just in case of any local Mennonites attending or visiting campus, or some Luddite farmers were in town for one of the dances.

Okay, not true, parking was a hassle. I normally left my car in a spot right in front of the back door of the dorm, and rode my bicycle anywhere in town I needed to go, or walked.
