Looks like we'll be closing April 12th. Although now I will have a lot of stress with all the inspections, appraisers, and new roof, getting a rental down there, packing and moving, I feel better about the stress than I do the limbo of the last couple months. I am weird aren't I?
I tend to get road sleepy, so mom is flying out to drive back with me. We'll be taking 40 basically straight through to Arkansas before turning South. We're planning 3 full days.

Yay! Congrats to you! I read about it in the IM window, but you were gone by the time I read it. Anywho, YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!
:djparty:
Here's hoping your drive on 40 will be more interesting than 20! LOL Good luck with all your stressy stuff in the meantime!

I missed the story. You're moving, I take it? New job? New direction in life?

Lifestyle choice. We bought 1/2 acre with a deeded boat slip on the Bon Secour river in Southern Alabama. Only a few minutes drive to the beach, we have our plans already drawn up for a gorgeous new house, and I can keep my same job and work from home.

Sorry if it's already been announced, but does this sale affect the time-line? When can we expect to have you here?

We close on April 12th and we have to be out by 5pm that day, so should be in Foley by the 15th/16th.

Awesome news! Sounds like your new house is going to be fabulous...living by the ocean and having a beach to go to everyday. I'm envious of you.

There can't be many jobs you can do in Vegas and Alabama.

I telecommute as it is, since the main offices are in SoCal. Just a matter of having a phone and high speed Internet and a firewall. It's a shitty company and I don't know how long they will remain in business (hell I thought they'd be gone by now), but it's decent pay and easy.

Congratulations!
The good thing about hurricanes is that we know they're coming and can evacuate. People who stay despite the warnings aren't very bright.

Congrats! Being in limbo is worse-- that is what purgatory is all about isn't it? Now you can move forward with specifics-- that is much better. Have you thought of hiring a packing and moving company? Or will you do it all yourselves?

I felt the same way with some recent unpleasant stuff I had to do. Unless it's a real pain, I'd much rather be busy than restless. :yup:

We're doing it ourselves. Much of the house is already empty as we packed up all non-necessities and culled a bunch of garbage (I had 4 entire sets of dishes. For me and Frank. I think that was excessive.) and have an amazing amount of stuff already in storage ready to load on the U-Haul.

We FINALLY got approval on the construction loan. We had hoped to start building long before this, but Southerners (or at least Alabamans) seem to lack any sense of urgency. Luckily the propsed house + land appraised for about 30K more than it's costing us, so all expenses including the land clearing and sewer hook ups and such can be rolled into the loan, rather than paid for in cash, if we choose.
We also have a rental all lined up and locked in. It ain't much, a one room guest house, but it's tourist season and rentals are hard to find and expensive. It's right up the road from our lot, which I will pass daily to go to "work" at my moms house.

ARRRGGGH! I was waiting for the shoe to drop so to speak, and it did. We don't have a mortgage.
We were originally told that our application could NOT go to the construction loan department until a mortgage was approved first. It was supposedly with the "mortgage" people for two weeks. Anyhoo, yesterday, the construction loan people ask us who is doing our mortgage..."You are"..."No, there is no mortgage listed here". What the fuck?
LadyShea
03-22-2005, 01:39 AM
Okay, looking better. We now have a construction loan AND preapproval for the mortgage at a good interest rate.
Still haven't gotten the appraisal on this house yet, which is a bit scary, but I am hoping that doesn't mean anything.
So these people can't talk to themselves? bureaucracy :argh:

My folks warned me to expect incompetancy and inefficiency every time I turn around down there. Theys not gotten up t'speed on some of the new fangled gadgets. Guess I need to get used to it.
