I just bought a mountain bike. It's a Specialized - used, $125. It needs some work, but I'm taking it off road right after I get off work today. I hope I don't kill myself.
I'm a long-time road biker, and I've always thought I should try mountain biking (especially since old sports injuries to my knees have slowed down my hiking ability). Any tips? Or just go for it?
Here are some questions I have:
1) Do mountain bike riders use toe clips or clipless pedals? Or do they need to be able to get their feet off the pedals more quickly?
2) Should the seat height be a little lower than on a road bike?
3) If you go over the handlebar, hit your head, and become a drooling vegetable, can you still watch the Tour de France on TV?
