Ok so, my husband has wanted a tatoo for years now, he just either doesn't get around to it or can't decide what he wants. He doesn't look enough either though, he'll buy a magazine here and there, sit at the computer looking through some but.........it just ain't happening that way. His birthday is in a week or so, I was thinking of having the funds available for him to get one, maybe pick out a good tatoo parlor and then find some tatoos to choose from that he might find interesting, just at least have some good choices for him available, I pretty much know what he likes.

So, I don't know. Anybody know of a good site that has some really good ones or whatever. I need some direction I guess, just hitting differenct sites at random just isn't working.

And beyond all that, how about a discussion of tatoos in general. Want one, have one you regret, like them, hate them, have pictures, etc?

I had it beat into my head as a child that tattoos are bad because they last forever and interests change, etc. So when I decided to get a tattoo about 15 years ago, it was with the contingency that it had to be something that I know I would never lose interest in or change my beliefs about. As a result I've never gotten one. I've since given up the idea that it has to be something profound but I'm too poor and lethargic to get one.

I'm basically with VM on this. I've never been able to find one that I think I would not regret when I am an old, saggy granny. Plus, I live around an area where a tatooed woman is considerred loose or immoral. I had it drilled into my head about it being sinful and that religious laws prohibit tatoos, so I am probably more conservative.

I love my tattoos, but I designed them both myself and had an artist draw them for me. I would never pick and stick.

Maybe you can talk to an artist or two at a good studio about custom work, ask to see their portfolios, and maybe get your husband a gift certificate?

Also, Beth...both of mine that are in places that don't show to anyone unless i want them to...one I can't even see without two mirrors.

I know. I just never found one I think I would like permanently. I thought about a butterfly on my lower back once, then I saw it was ala Spears and decided against it.

Anything I ever put on me would have to be really simple, no large areas, no elaborate designs, no yellows, purples especially. No large amounts of red for sure. My aunt and her daughter both just got one on their lower back which they designed, it's nice and all but the colors just aren't good.

The only thing I think I could ever put on me would be some tribal design somewhere well placed, or something that has probably been done a million times though I've never seen it, ie: I'd like one with the outline of a flag in black and then a red maple leaf in the middle, the skin for white and then a good ol' "Made in Canada" type underneath. This I would put on my back right hip kinda.

Me and my husband had one we were both interested in, the spare outline of a panther which mostly just denoted basic form and sinew so it wasn't solid and the lines were in black. Then he was looking at you, his mouth a bit sharp, his eyes a bright green and he's crawling up your arm and where his claws are digging into you there's a few drops of red blood.

This one though, I don't think it's solid enough.

For a woman, designing one might be easy but for a man, it's not so easy as flowers, butterflies, hearts, swords or whatever. My sister has a rose on her ankle, my sister-in-law, I can't even remember what she has.

The tribal one I picked out I really liked just because there's no connected lines really. I don't want any angles, I think angles just draws your eye but it draws your eye to something sharp as opposed to something smooth and other things of that nature.

I'm not sentimental and my husband isn't all that much so having something have meaning for us as far as tatoos are concerned, it's not really important.

LOL, I realized I'm trying to decorate my husband. :D I should just take a pic of him and put in a program and try different things.

I had it drilled into my head about it being sinful and that religious laws prohibit tatoos, so I am probably more conservative.

You should so meet my friend. Omg, she was raised Mennonite, not just Mennonite but colony style Mennonite, ie:

No drinking
No dancing
No tatoos of any sort
No piercings
No make-up
No cut hair
No pants/shorts/bathing suits for females
etc.

Ack, why do you think she had to move away from me! She went wild man, lol, she wears pants, make-up, she cuts her hair, it's crazy! :D She couldn't live around her parents anymore and if someone saw her out in public wearing pants, it would get back to her mother and she would get a lecture, an "I'm so disappointed in you" type deal and she just wouldn't put up with it anymore but she didn't want to be out right rebellious having to be around her mother all the time so she moved. The woman is like 25, the whole situation to me is ludicrous but I'm not them so.

She's got a belly ring now, last time I saw her it's like, come see what I got! :D

Under those laws I'm going to hell for sure! :D

Sweetie said something about no large areas. I'd generally agree, although I thought if I were going to do one on my back, it'd be something like this:

Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, for those who might not know.
