View Full Version : A few questions

When I mark a forum as read why does it return me to a view of just that group of forums (i.e. "The Marketplace")? I think it should take me back to the main forum index. Is that wrong?

My other question is why when I am looking at just one group of forums it says "Sub-Forums" in the little title bar? They aren't sub-forums are they?

That's actually only a couple of questions, not a few. :P

1. It seems logical to me that it would work the way it does. It returns you to the parent of the forum, which is the category.

2. Oddly, the way vBulletin works categories are technically forums acting like categories, configurable in the admin control panel. So really what we call the 'forums' are in fact sub-forums of the forums acting like categories.

I didn't realize these were precise measurements.

But who ever really uses the category view? It just makes an extra page load for me. :P

I just think the vBulletin people can't get their terminology straight. Should sub-forums be called sub-sub-forums?

The whole idea I heard on some other thread here about flagging threads with whatever subjects they fit into when making them instead of sticking them into forums sounds better and better all the time. Whose idea was that anyway?

That was ceptimus' flash of brilliance. We're totally down for that as soon as we can scrounge up the code.

You guys are really nice to work so hard at perfecting the details of the forum.

Ain't that the truth. :yup: If I was them I would have banned annoying people like me by now.

I can't ban you, man. I've got my eye on you for the v-bar.

Thank you Beth and Crumb. :thankee:

Y'know, they apparently aren't. All my life I've believed that 'couple' means two, and 'few' means three or more. But while one of the definitions of 'couple' is "two; a pair", another definition is "an indefinite small number; few". And the definition of 'few' says nothing about 3 or more, only "more than one". Hopefully I'll remember this from now on.

So you're one of those people who thinks sidewalks should be layed where people walk, eh? Well I am too, actually. I think you're probably right, and I'll look at changing that functionality to perform as you suggest.

I can't argue with ya there. I have no idea why categories are really forums.

Dude, you're barely three-quarters of the way to M. You need to set up a bot to post for you while you are asleep or something.

Thanks for the tip, I tried this but the bot was not nearly as intelligent as I. All those posts made from the middle of the night that are just plain stupid. Those were the bot makin' an ass of me. :donkey:

So...uh, how'd the lookin' go?

I gotta admit the lookin' never went.

You should find that it works as you requested now, though. :)

Incidentally I'm sorry I didn't get to that sooner, Crumb. Organizational skills are not very high on my list of abilities, so I too often let requests slip between the cracks.

I understand completely. I am the same way. But I may continue to bug you every Saturday morning. It seems to be the best way to get things done around here.

That will probably be especially true when (if) I start working again.

Oh it is, believe me. I think I honestly put in about 60 hours on tweaking the forum software last week. Unfortunately when my housemate says "Get a job" and I say "I have a job!" he always follows it up with "Then give me money for rent!" as though there's some kind of correlation there. But there isn't.
