it seems I has some connection to the intarwebs.

After all this farting about, the line is fine - it's probably the router/laptop combo causing the problems. I have to take them both in on Monday.

The laptop is newly rebuilt, the router is totally new. I SAID THE PROBLEMS STARTED WITH THE NEW ROUTER. But the problems I reported sounded like it was the line that was causing the problem. I've had three different engineers visiting my house in the last 2 weeks to tell me that the line is fine and I'm sitting on top of an exchange and should be getting a 6mb connection. I'm getting a 265k connection at best.

I have now organised to bring 3 different routers home on Monday. I will use this thread as my testing zone if that's OK.

Hopefully you'll find the problem and things will be as they should. I happen to be somewhat close to an exchange (enough to have a 7 Mbps connection via DSL) myself and it gives me fits when I have connection issues.
