I made myself a hamburger today that looked so darned good I took a photo! It was mighty tasty, too.

http://www.pescifish.net/images/prettyHamburger.jpg

Layered as such:
focaccio roll, cut in half and toasted with butter on a griddle
catsup and dab of mustard
one clove raw garlic, very thinly sliced
orange bell pepper, thinly sliced
grass fed angus beef hamburger grilled to medium
mixed greens salad with a creamy blue cheese dressing that had been mixed with catsup. The salad had beets in it; beets on burgers is good!
red onion, thick slice
tomato, thinly sliced

I would have added some gorgonzola or blue cheese next to the hot burger, had I remembered in time. Bacon probably would go well, too.

The burger is accompanied by oven roasted veggies (yams, chile peppers and red sweet peppers) and raw sliced cucumber.

Anyway, if you guys have any pictures of pretty food, I'd love to see them!

That looks delicious, Pesci. I've never heard of putting raw garlic on a sandwich but it sounds good. :yup:

Here's a pic of something I ate a lot in California, but forgot about until just now:

Cut the centers out of two slices of bread.
Toss the bread centers and hollow pieces in sizzling butter.
Break an egg into each hollow piece.
When it starts to harden, flip it over (and the center pieces).
Put on a plate and dig into the yolks using the bread centers.
Stuff the yolks and rest in your mouth at will.

Good name! My Mom used to cook us eggs and toast every morning when I was a kid, but she never made them this way. Just standard over-easy with toast on the side. I didn't learn this method until a couple years ago. The bread in the picture is Italian Pugliese I found at Albertsons (the local mainstream grocery).

OH.......MY...........GOD.

That looks delicious. I've had a craving for a good burger for over a week, but haven't found a restaurant that makes them the way I like.

I had to wait until the right kind of bread came out of the freezer queue to make the Sunshine Eggs, but I tried them this morning. Deee-licious. I like how the bread toasts up well in the pan with the butter before the egg goes in. Thanks for the recipe -- I've never heard of making eggs this way before! :hungry:

That looks delicious, Pesci. I've never heard of putting raw garlic on a sandwich but it sounds good. It's not for the faint of heart. If you aren't sure if you like eating raw garlic, I wouldn't recommend it. But if I slice it very thin so that it is just barely a layer across a sandwich that has quite a bit of punch to it otherwise, the garlic taste is just about right for me. Spreading roasted garlic on a sandwich is mighty fine, too, but I prefer the raw taste.

Yesterday, I had a roast beef sandwich made from doggie bag leftovers of a Friday prime rib dinner out. The garlic layer definitely added to that traditional beef, tomato and lettuce sandwich.

(If you want to go with slightly cooked garlic try: heavy wheat bread, thin layer of raw garlic, a favorite cheese, black forest ham, seasonings to taste--or none, more cheese, butter both outsides of sandwich, grill in the George Foreman...)

I've always called that Toad in a Hole.

I'll have to take a picture the next time I make my egg bread. It's kind of like a challah recipe, braided with an egg wash. It comes out all shiny and golden brown and looking almost fake.

I'm sure it could have plated it to be even prettier, but how about this one?
turkey mango salad
http://www.pescifish.net/images/turkeyMangoSalad.jpg

It's one of my standard garden garbage heap salads (i.e., whatever I happened to grab while making my parrot's breakfast), but the major players are turkey and mango-jalapeno-ginger-lime relish:
skinless boneless turkey breast, spritzed with olive oil, dusted with some jarred spice rub, salt and pepper and grilled on the George Foreman
romaine, assorted baby greens, broccoli, red bell pepper, green onion, carrots, asparagus, cucumber and other stuff I can't remember
slivered almonds
cubed mango, juice of 2 limes, juice of half lemon, salt, 2 minced garlic gloves, ginger paste, diced fresh jalapeno, diced red onion, diced red and yellow bell peppers, probably less than teaspoon of olive oil (I wanted most of the liquid to be limey) -- let sit for a while to get it all juiced up

I didn't actually use all that turkey in the salad. I took some off after this picture and added it to the rest of the turkey breast. There is enough left for two good sandwiches.

Here's another good lookin' meal. Pork chops, panfried and finished with a citrus/pepper jelly reduction thingie; lightly steamed asparagus and some jarred mushrooms; a variant of the El Torito corn cake.
This plate was dismantled after its modelling session and contents packed up for dinner at work tonight.

For anyone who might be interested, the El Torito corn cakes were made from the package mix (with the butter and canned creamed corn, as directed). But before baking I added 2 diced jalapenos, diced red bell peppers, shaved parmesan and shredded swiss cheese. I baked it over an hour (longer than the package says) because I like the crunchy crust. And, as usual, it is served using an ice cream scoop to make fluffy round mounds.

Yummers! That asparagas is so fat. Or did you use trick photography?

pescifish

It is thicker than I prefer, but it's not too fat, really. I believe it's the age ol' problem and optical illusion of being photographed ass end up.

BTW, did you stockpile a supply of El Torito corn cake mix when you left the area? If it's not available in your supermarkets and you want some, let me know and I'll ship you a few packs.

I am so glad I live by myself, so I don't have to answer awkward questions such as, "Why are you photographing your dinner?" and, "No really. Why are you photographing your dinner?"

I give you veggie burger over jasmine rice, with cheesy vegetables and caesar salad!

(it probably would be prettier if the patty had been crumbled, but veggie patties are not the easiest consistency to work with. Maybe if I'd had a cheese grater. Hmmm...)

Also, check out those wacky LSD flowers. They're called crazy daisies, and they are the real reason I busted out the camera.
