View Full Version : EEK! My Monitor is failing!

There's nothing to be done about it, but I wanted everyone here to know, in case I disappear for a while.
Because I also need my eyeglasses changed very badly and can't effort to get new ones, either, I can barely see what I'm writing now in order to correct my typos and mispellings.
I really, really like all of you, so the mere thought that that I might be stuck offline again is even harder to bear. At the risk of sounding maudlin, I want to to know that now while I can tell you myself.
I am going to give an FF link to a friend of mine, so that, if possible, she can't join long enough to let liv and vm know when my monitor is entirely unusable, if liv and vm are agreeable.
If she shows up, you should try to keep her if you can. She's an extaordinary person and has regularly kicked me to the curb in political discussions, but in a good way. If this wre like a job, I wouldn't choose her to tell you anything for fear you'd replace me with her. ;)

Oh crap Seven. :( I'm glad you're inviting your friend and I really hope she shows up to kick all of our asses regularly (God knows we could use it), but are we sure there's nothing to be done about your imminent monitor failure?

What kind do you have right now? I might be able to scare up something right quick from our disposal queue at work, but it wouldn't be a very good something (hence the disposal). Would your basic 15" (13" viewable) CRT monitor be too hard on your ailin' eyes?

I don't know enough to be SURE, but I think it's even older than my last one, and it certainly seems to me that it's failing from old age. *sighs*

This one came from my cousin's personal disposal queue because he stores his old hardware when he upgrades, if it still works. I would still be offline, because the "new" recondtioned comp my brother gave me for my birthday didn't come with one.
Measured diagonally, as one does with TV sets, mine seems to be at least an inch LESS viewable than that, so it sounds like you're talking about one the size of my last monitor, which was actually bigger, so it might be helpful on two levels.
However, liv, wouldn't something as heavy as a monitor be too expensive to ship? :(

Really sorry to hear that, Seven. Monitors are far too good at dying at completely the wrong moment. I hope you're not away for long, and can get back online soon!

aww...:blush3:

I'm still hanging in here, Drager, but I don't know for how long. If it gets much worse, I won't be able to post here and my loyal role players, who still wanted to play after I was offline for SEVEN months, are totally screwed NOW. Not only to I run the thing and edit it for continuity and errors which embarasses my players, like mispellings, but I play several roles and no way can I get into character when posting is this difficult.
I just got here, so it's way easier on our membership here if I can't post for awhile, but these poor folks have been playing in one or another of my games for over two years, although I'm not sure I see the attraction? ;)
I even got nominated for an award for Best RPG Design for a game which has been dormant for a REALLY long time, and NO WAY is it the best designed one on the board, IMO. It had to have been done by one of my current players who have played in both, so I feel terrible about my monitor acting up like this. I hate to let them down. :(
They really must enjoy it for SOME mysterious reason: many of them post so often that I must keep an eye on it for at least eight hours a day, so that it doesn't move more slowly than they prefer vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent vent

It's affordable, Seven. One of the rare joys of working for a big company is bulk shipping rates even for UPS. Sit tight, babeh. :)

Hmm... do I say something consoling even though liv has already volunteered to solve the problem? Dilemma. :chin:

Yet, somehow this post appears consoling. ;)

That's just cause it's all blurry and dim. :giggle:

Define "affordable", Captain. :7of9:

I give the orders on this vessel, Seven. :seacaptain:

(Affordable means it causes me no financial difficulties so it's on its way. :yup:)

I am stubborn. As your self-appointed first officer, honesty compells me to advise you to emulate Captain Janeway if you are to succeed in this dubious endeavor:

I require that you be more specific, Captain. What many people of this time period appear to mean by the phrase "no financial difficulties" is that is that they can afford to both purchase a extra item and pay their rent...if they confine themselves to a diet of packaged Ramen noodles for a month.

I hope you can get your monitor issues resolved quickly (i.e., don't argue with Captain livius!) I can relate to Posting While Unclear -- it's disconcerting, that's for sure!

Darn, I've got a 17" Gateway monitor sitting on the floor in a closet. I'd be happy to give it away to a good home.

You say you live three hours from Branson in which direction?
Perhaps you shouldn't answer that. BWHAHAHAHAHA!

Southwest, just the other side of Tulsa.

I assure you that Ramen noodles are not in the picture. Really, Seven, it's not even remotely an issue. Expect a large box Tuesday or Wednesday. Now mind you, I make no guarantees, so keep on warrenly's good side because you might well have to go to Plan B. ;)

You have insured my compliance with your first order in the best Janeway traditon: by trumping my hand.
Nevertheless, I am Borg. Anyone who has ever watched a few episodes of Voyager is aware that whenever I'm not saving the ship and her crew from disaster, my primary function is to torture the captain.

Now mind you, I make no guarantees, so keep on warrenly's good side because you might well have to go to Plan B. ;)

My secondary function is to torture other, more hapless, crew members. If I ever depart the U.S.S. Freethought, it will because one of her crew has blown me out of the airlock.
Nevertheless, that person will not be warrenly. I can do little else than comply with your second order; he appears to possess no other side to keep on than the one you've stipulated, Captain.

I also suspect warrenly of never having seen the film Fatal Attraction. ;)

ATTN: Plan B is in deep trouble. Repeat. Plan A better work because Plan B isn't looking good.

/me pops in long enough to scream

I CAN'T FIND THE SUMBITCH ANYWHERE AND A 17" SONY MONITOR IS TOO FREAKING BIG TO HIDE JUST ANYWHERE!!!

Someone, perhaps even me in a drug altered state, already gave it away or hauled it to Goodwill. Sorry.

What happened to the monitor liv was sending to Seven? I thought she would have received it by now, and be posting again.
