Here's the website (http://www.mrdeity.com/), It's hilarious and tasteful.

Check the second line. :(

Get it at Youtube.

Do you think it's better than say, Southpark or family guy with it's religious comedy?

I like that it's short clips and It's funny in a tasteful manner. It's pretty alright.

Now you have extreme jokes like southpark or moral orel and light ones like this.

I have enjoyed him for a long time.

"What about torture?"

"Yeah . . . I'm going to allow that."

Wow, I didn't realize PZ was capable of speaking for that long without insulting anyone. Just yesterday morning I heard him on NPR claiming to not understand why he got 15,000 hate mails for posting a picture on Pharyngula of a rusty nail driven through a "cracker" (communion wafer) for "Blasphemy Day". That wacky squid-lover.

I saw a Youtube vid about the NPR report were he said that.
I find it quite humorous.:D

For the record, he didn't do it on or for "Blasphemy Day".

Who coined the term 'New Atheism' anyway? And what's different from the 'Old Atheism'?

I don't know, but there's a "New Atheist" movement going on.

Old Atheist are more tolerant, as oppose to "New Atheist" are more "Aggressive" by use of ridicule and protest like "Blasphemy day"

But every day is Blasphemy Day.

Yes, I agree.
But it was a respond to the blasphemy laws in the UK I believe.
It was agreed to make September 30. The anniversary of the danish cartoons of mohammed.

Here's a video on the subject by ProfMTH.
There's a discussion going on about it on youtube.

YouTube - Atheist vs. Atheist?

It has the NPR story. :yup:

I'll be making a vid response soon.

"The more outragous the message the better says PZ Myers."
Where have we heard that before? It seems to be the underlying slogan of fundamentalist christians and Fox News.

Let's say they can defeat religion, well then so what? Is my world or the world of the future made any better if the same type of prejudice and hate exists only it goes by a new name?

Ugh, he used the word "edgy."

You should believe in god because it's fun?

Ensign Steve

What I took away from the commentary (and the episode itself) is that Wii is more important that caring about one's own or others' god beliefs.

Anyway, he wasn't saying that "You should believe in god because it's fun" but that you shouldn't be a buzzkill about other people's beliefs if they're just trying to have a good time.

Edit: In fact, he doesn't even say that, he just says that Dawkins is like the kids who say there's no Santa Claus to first graders who are just trying to have fun.

D. Scarlatti
10-21-2009, 02:33 PM
I don't think Richard Dawkins has ever gone into a church and told people anything. He only goes where he's invited, it seems to me.

Ensign Steve
10-21-2009, 02:34 PM
Okay. I don't think Matt and Trey have ever said you should believe in god because it's fun. And my edit crossposted with your post.

D. Scarlatti
10-21-2009, 02:37 PM
I don't think Matt and Trey are capable of engaging the arguments. That's why people get angry at Dawkins. And if they really did read his book, they'd he know that he allows that there may be a god, just that the possibility is extremely remote.

There's no "whining" in it. It's actually pretty funny.

Ensign Steve
10-21-2009, 02:40 PM
I don't think they are interested in making the arguments in the first place. That's what I gathered from the commentary anyway. That Wii is more relevant to his life than God is.

I'm finish the god delusion, I have mixed feeling. But it's still good. I don't see why people rag on it. I'd recommend another book, but "The God Delusion" is a down to earth approach. I like the "Argument for god" in this book. e.i. "Argument from admired religious scientist" it's kinda comical. :giggle:

What pisses me off more than any atheists ever have is the bit where people who have vague ideas about some cosmic consciousness or whatever, still insist on calling that God (with a capital and all). And that fundamentalists of all the abrahamic faiths use that as confirmation of all their delusions. I see them do that all the time. It's pretty much the only reason I call myself an atheist: I may not be sure there isn't some kind of thing that some people would define as god, I am 100% sure there isn't anything that comes even remotely close to the Yahweh/Jehovah/God/Allah of the abrahamic faiths.

Indeed.

I used to think that "God" is all those name. But I see yahweh/jehovah and allah are two different deities with respect to there religions. Moreover in islam, Allah has roughly 99 names according to his attributes, as so yahweh, e.i adonia or elohim.

I stop arguing with people philosophically, because when you do engage people in these conversations they sway back and forth between Deist and Christianity when cornered. Quite ridiculous.

I say atheist mainly to make sure that people understand certain things about my position, even though they'll probably not get it correct when I say atheist either. When you say "agnostic" a lot of people conclude "uncertainty," as if I am really sitting on the fence and I might be easily swayed towards religion. And they tend to think that if you admit a possibility of something "god-like", that means their god.

But most people also think if you say atheist that you mean that you deny that there's any possibility of anything that could be called god existing (and the term "god" is so vague that it's difficult to do that anyway). But I'd rather correct that misconception than other possible misconceptions.

That's why I love Matt dillahunty's approach. He says "Tell me what you believe in, and why?".It may seem like a trap but it cuts through all the BS.
