View Full Version : How to deal with a bad dental issue?

I had veneers put on my two front toothies recently, but so far it hasn't worked out as well as I would have hoped. The temporaries came off before the permanents were ready (fortunately they came in on the weekend to fix it) and about six weeks after the perms went on - it was actually six weeks to the day because they put them on the day before the surgery - I felt like they just didn't "feel right", so I went in for a check and he said not to worry and just brush and floss more vigorously. So you can imagine my surprise when on moving day (last Thurs.) I was brushing vigorously and the left one just fell off.

I called the dentist immediately and they were willing to take me that afternoon to fix it (necessitating paying someone to supervise the movers which didn't work out so well, but that's for the Rant thread!) So my "friend" took me to them and they fixed it, but.... it's still not feeling right. I haven't eaten anything normally for months now - only soft foods and never biting down - and still I just feel intuitively that this thing (veneer) is NOT staying on.

So the question is, if he has messed it up this many times, if he refers me to someone who has more experience with cosmetic dentistry, do I have to pay again?

I'm getting my front two redone as well, and I had the choice between veneers and full crowns. I went with the more expensive full crowns because I wanted to be able to bite down on apples and things like that. Since veneers aren't working out for you, I'd recommend asking this other dentist about crowns or something more durable than veneers. I'm sure you will have to pay for whatever you get, but you might be able to fight the first dentist for a refund on the veneers. Good luck!

I wouldn't want to pay to have the same dentist redo them, but that's exactly what I had to do. Actually, we negotiated a lesser payment since insurance wouldn't pay again for the same work, I paid $100 instead of about $500. This was the dentist that did a crown prep on the wrong tooth. I haven't been back to him since. I'm still in the market for a good dentist, I've been through 3 questionable ones since I moved to Oklahoma in 2000.
