So, I'm on welbutrin these days as a possible treatment for ADHD. (Stimulants gave me heart trouble.)

The most fucked up thing has started happening. I can experience two things at once. For instance, I can hear two drum beats at once. Or I can hear any part of a song other than vocals during the vocals.

This. Is. So. Cool.

Awesome! I can do that if I concentrate on the part.

I've never experienced this before in my life. It is so fucking cool.

I'm also hearing a TON of echoes and other effects that I never heard before because there were other things that were louder.

Cool note: A lot of techno is much, much, deeper than I realized it was.

Trance is the only bad techno. It always makes me want to hurl literally. Ambience is the best.

I'm not sure I completely understand what you mean, but I can single out tracks in music seperately. I dunno. Processing it all seperately at once takes some mental excursion, doesn't it? You should go listen to Pink Floyd now and kick out the jams. Or some spiratic classical music! Apparently listening to classical music for 30 minutes or so effects the Human brain in the same way two Valium do (or perhaps Vicodin? Something V_____).

When I was 8 or 9, I slept with the radio on. Some kids are afraid of the dark, I was afraid of the quite.

One night I couldn't sleep, so I just kept tuning the radio to different channels, finding what I could find. I came across a classical channel just as one piece was ending. The DJ chimed in, "this next piece is from [forgot]. It is a very complex arrangement with 12 levels of simultaneous melody. See how many you can pick out." A challenge! I picked out 9 before the piece ended. That was the first time I recognized that music had that 'feature'.

Just two drum beats at once?

What are you? An AirSupply fan?

Techno is one of my favorites for listening to with headphones because of the proliferation of tiny parts. There are so many little noises that peep and pop all over the place. It never even occurred to me that some people might not be able to hear the trees for the forest. Very cool, seebs.

My problem was the other way. I could only hear individual parts. So I might hear some of those little peeps and pops, but I wouldn't hear anything else while I was hearing them.

In the intro to the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band track (the second one on the album), during the intro, one of the band members says "hi" quietly during the "one two three four" part. That normally wipes whatever else I was hearing at the time, because it's anomalous.

Trance is the only bad techno.I t always makes me want to hurl literally. There is a lot of annoying trance out there.

There's that certain style that's high pitched, very high BPM and it all sounds the same. A friend of mine started liking it after he started doing ecstasy, which made me kinda think that maybe I shouldn't try it if that was one of the side effects.

But there are other styles of trance that are much better.
Ambience is the best.Eh, ambient can be boring. There's some good stuff tho, like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada... I usually prefer house and electro-(house, electro-pop, electro-clash, etc.). Chiptunes can be fun too.

Daft Punk is probably my favorite electronic music group... for now anyway. Justice and MSTRKRFT and Boys Noize are pretty cool too. The Knife, Röyksopp, Hot Chip, Junior Boys, M83, Simian Mobile Disco, Mylo... I could list more but yeah.

But yeah... plenty of electronic music is good.

Not quite, but basically, I won't notice anything funky or interesting that happens during vocals unless I've heard a song a HUGE number of times so that I can filter the vocals out.

But, say, the intro to Sgt Pepper (the second one)... I always heard this as
one two hi three four

but actually the "hi" and "two" are simultaneous.

Also, there's a bass line.

Someone got me an Aphex Twin CD, and I just don't get it. It wasn't music to me.

Okay, an example. I listen to a ton of Weird Al.

There's a piano part in White and Nerdy which I've never heard before. I simply did not realize there was a piano in there. And I've listened to the song a lot -- I just couldn't hear most of it.

Loosely based on the B52s Rock Lobster.

The best Weird Al songs were the ones that had little to do with existing thing. Like Hardware Store which is awesome.

I have a B52s Album

I don't know for sure whether any of them are totally unrelated -- I suspect they're just homages to groups I don't know about.

That's pretty amazing, seebs. I'm glad you've made a fun discovery. For myself, although I *know* there's harmony in things, for the life of me, I can only hear the main melody line.
