View Full Version : Is there a doctor in the house?

Just wondering, 'cos I just got a wee bit of a paranoia inducing fright.
It's a girlie thing, so non-doctorin' boys may want to leave.
Anyway, I'm sitting here in my dressing gown, working on the 'puter. Notice some fluid running down my body, and without thinking I wipe it away with my hand. Noticed that my hand was a wee bit bloody, so I look around my upper left side to see where it came from, and notice a drop of bloody fluid coming from my left nipple. My dressing gown has a few small drops of light blood and a few drops of a yellowish fluid on it. Not much just a bit. It's stopped now, though my nip is still a bit dampish.
Is this normal?
Background: I'm 46 years old, have had one child, and I started my period today.
Is this something that's just hormonal and I should start to expect it every time I get my period from now till after menopause, or is it potentially something a bit dodgier?
It's not something I've really noticed before now, and I can't see or feel anything like lumps or whathaveyou - but then I barely have any breasts to fumble about with anyway.
It's all a bit disconcerting really. :shakebewb:

Hi! I'm not a doctor and I am a man but I'm studying biomedicine so I know a little bit.
It sounds like endometriosis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endometriosis). That's where a bit of your uterus gets regurgitated through the fallopian tube and enter the lymphatic system. They then travel to other parts of the body, take up residence and keep behaving like a uterus ie. they menstruate. It's caused by something called the retrograde menstruation hypothesis.
It's also fairly common but it can lead to pain and inflammation when you menstruate.

Holy menstrabooby!
The body sure is weird. I think I'd like to trade 'er in for a new one. :yup:
And I have suffered some nausea and fatigue lately. :chin:

Well if you do trade there's a 10-15% chance you'll get it again. Best to keep the one you're familiar with.
Also, yes, the human body can be one freaky weird place. Fascinating though. :D

Bleeding boobies should be checked out by a doctor, Pets. Just one of those things we don't leave up to Internet research :glare:. Might be nothing, might be something.
Let us know what happens!

I second the check up advice, while it could be endometriosis, which usually is only in the abdomen, but it could be something else.

 Oh yes, I should definitely have added to get yourself checked out. Sorry.

I was thinking she had achieved sainthood and had started the holy stigmata bleeding before reaching statuehood...maybe not.

Please do go get it checked out. Because yeah, may be nothing, but better to know, just in case.

I've had no further booby leakings, but I will go to the doctor on Friday to get it checked out.
I have a feeling, though, that godfry is right: I'm just approaching sainthood. Perfectly understandable, and long overdue if you ask me. :)

What an amazing coincidence! I have not had any booby leakings either.

I have a feeling it should be her, but it's actually me.

Ooh, lucky you, you'll get to have your Smashogram!
I'm boycotting my Smashogram this year because I seriously doubt anything has changed, and I'm not at risk.
But you sound like you need one!

I had my boob smashogram this month. They did it differently this time (last time was 20 years ago, so no real surprise). They smashed from the side as well as up and down.
It was a thorough work up.

I can't say for certain, but smashing may be better than the alternative methodology developed here at the FF.

Nah, I was laughing at myself, vm. I have no idea how big or small your boobies are. I only know that my own are pretty much man-sized.

It depends on how much edamame he's had this month, anyway.

Personally, I'm working on a new technique which involves "motorboating". Research continues...

Well, I went to the doctor, and he checked me for any lumps. No lumps, thank goodness. He asked me if I could express any fluid, and without much effort at all, I provided a blood tinged sample for testing.
I will also have mammogram and ultrasound tests on Tuesday morning.
Doc said that if those tests are negative I must still continue to follow it up as we need to find out what is causing this, as it could be anything from a mild haemotoma due to a whack on the breast causing internal bruising and the like (which I'm pretty sure I haven't had, but hoping that I have and just don't remember), all the way to breast cancer (which I'm trying not to think about because it's just too fucking scary).

I had my scare a year ago (that's why I'm not going back this year). I also hope your problem turns out to be minor.
Apparently, these things only have a 30-year warranty.

Had my mammogram and ultrasound on Tuesday. They found something, but it looks benign. Dunno quite what they found, but perhaps it's a cyst or something. Anyway, I have to follow up with my doctor for the full cross-checked mammography results, and I must see a breast specialist (a real one, not one of those fake ones you find at pub gigs).
The prognosis is that I will most likely live, provided I look both ways before crossing the street. :)

Do let us know whether it's a fibrous cyst or the other kind, the one with the fluid. What? I want to know.

Looks like ES will volunteer to pop it for you, Pets. :shudder:
Still keeping digits crossed until all is said and done and you're for sure in the clear. :crossed: :crossed:

On the ultrasound screen it looked like a black hole with a bright white edge, so I guess it is some kind of fluid filled sack - no pus, though - just a clear or blood tinged fluid.
You'd have enjoyed the mammogram, ES! That kinda squeeze caused quite a wee mess on the plate. All that was missing were the nipple clamps! :giggle:
