Am I Press?

I was researching a blog entry yesterday and ended up not writing it because the associated pictures were only made available to the press on this website where you have to register with the name of your company etc. Obviously I'm not that kind of press, but am I some varietal of it?

I've pursued a couple of stories by contacting media relations departments. AT&T answered a question I had about their awesome Golden Boy statue (http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/2569), and just today I heard back from the Edinburgh College of Art regarding an awesome statue (http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/4494) of theirs cast from the flayed body of an executed criminal.

When I said I was working on a blog story the media reps were glad to help. They seem to consider me press without question, but that one website gave me pause. I want to follow stories to the source more often, but I'm not sure what my credentials are. Do I use my real name or my username? Do I link them to the blog or do I pretend I'm all dignified instead of the flippant, sarcastic smartass I am?

Update: National Geographic Publishing asked me to review a new book of theirs. (It's called Vampire Forensics and is about both vampire folklore and how it manifests in archaeological finds. I was on that like stank on sheeit, needless to say.) They gave me an FTP account so I could download it and my id is "press".
