So my bf, who lives in Finland, has just been here for five days. That was great. :waltz: But this morning he went away again, which was Not Good :sadcheer:. It will probably be July before he makes it here again. Is anyone else in this sort of long distance, only see each other once in a while relationship, and if so how do you find it?

I am, Moosie. (heh) My gf is in Texas going to school and I just got back from visiting her last week. The week before she was here visiting me. I have no idea when the next time I will see her is, and this summer she will be going even farther away to work in Washington, DC. Sexual frustration is the least of it really (:P justaman) I feel extremely lonely these days just after having spent almost two weeks with her.
The good news is that in this modern age of instant communication over long distances I can see her talk to her and chat with her for very little cost. So that is much better than letter writing or expensive long distance phone calls. We love the internets.
If it helps at all Moosie, I feel your pain.

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, Moosie.
Let's see: in this relationship, I was:
a) away at college, a 4-hour drive
b) off to Basic Training, me in TX and her in NY w/o a phone initially, even(!)
c) back in NY, but only a 2-hr drive away, so I saw her on weekends
d) starting a year before we were married, me in SC and her in NY
We started dating 8/91, I left for sr. yr of college at the end of that month. From the following May when I graduated 'til 1/93 when I left for the service we were together all the time. But then I was gone until mid-October, during which time we had two visits of about 3 days each (for one, I came home, for the other she visted me). Then came (c) above. For the first two months of that, I only saw her once, after that, for the next 8 months or so, I saw her nearly every weekend. But then I was gone again for a year, during which we had a couple of visits. Then we got married in 8/95.
There were lots of letters and cards (no email back then), not to mention lots of phone calls. It was tough, but we made it, and will celebrate our 10th anniversary this year! Hang in there, Moosie!

Hi Godfrey, sorry I am late :D
Yes it's bloody difficult, but you just have to realise that it will be worth it in the end. The computer is a great help, although it is not keeping the phone bills down to much. I will be in sunny Florida shortly and then I reckon the next time LC and I meet it will be in dear old Blighty, can't wait to see her drive on the left!!!

Yeah the internet helps .. well, that's how we met :). I don't think we could manage it without mobile phones either .. we do a lot of text messaging. He has a work phone so for the last few months (since he acquired it) we've been talking for an hour or so a day on it .. though apparently the horrendous bill came in and now his boss is asking questions. So back to SMS for a while :(
I got my passport the other day though so if I get really pissed off I'll rob a bank and fly out there.

HA! ....then he got a picturephone, i really love it, he sends me pics of himself, or his surroundings, it's pretty neat. geeze, i hadn't considered the bank robbery thing, i wonder if i could get away with it?? :assault:

Look forward to getting together, permanently. Talk and chat as much as humanly possible. Send each other little surprises through the mail, and generally be so romantic that others vomit. :flirty: Worked for us!

I dunno when we will be able to get together permanently though, if ever :( At the moment it's not really viable. Then again, hopefully now I have a passport I can go there often and stay longer, which will be good! I just gots to get over my morbid fear of taking my first flight :D

Heehee I can imagine THAT might be a problem .. of a separation kind :). When will said criminal be at liberty agaiN?
Sigh is at least two months till I see my Finn again and it sucks. I am tempted to borrow money from anywhere I can and go overthere but realistically, I know that;s not a good idea (am supposed to be starting a work placement soon).
