Here (http://img190.exs.cx/img190/8372/train7uj.jpg) is a present for you.

Oh dearie me. Abdul, man, the smilies here are far, far beyond lame. Far, far, far beyond lame. At some point, you might want to consider disabling them in your profile because seriously, it's a smiley madhouse up in here.
Still, the good news is I once rode the Orient Express to Istanbul. It kicked ass. :train:
Welcome to FF, Abdul. :welcome2:

The smileys here are so far beyond lame they circle the entire universe and arrive just on the other side of lame.
This may be the source of Abdul's confusion.
Welcome aboard, Abdul. Hope you enjoy your stay. As penance for your smiley remark, I suggest that each of your posts must contain a minimum of 5 non-lame smileys.

And it should not be over-used.
This one is borderline ==>
I will not disable smilies, because I want to know who is lame.

Erm... Abdul? You don't think the smilies you see on the right when you're making a new post are the only ones here, right? Because there are 1830 others waiting behind the "More" link.

That very well could be his problem Liv. Don't let the snoring bear and the oven mit hands fool you. There are gold in them thar smilies!

You just had to bring up the bear and oven mitts, didn't you? :glare:

Great. :sadcheer: This is the reward I get for posting on tami's forum that Freethought is my favourite place right now. Abdul comes here, trashes the smiley collection, and associates me with this heinous slur. :fuming:
Anyway, some of the smilies here are pretty lame - but we love them all anyway.

In the long and storied history of the FF, has a smiley ever been banished?

Oh sure. Before we opened I did major smiley purges at least 3 times. Once we went live, however, I couldn't do that anymore because banishment of any smiley which had already been posted would leave bereft smileytext instead of a pretty picture.
I have replaced a couple, though. :shocking: is the most recent example of that.

Ahh, so by that rationale, if suitable replacements could be found, we could remove these smileys that are not up to par?
Or could we?
I mean, if were to replace the big green freaky "Welcome" smiley with something else, then all those posts about how freaky the big green freaky "Welcome" smiley would be rendered with a completely different smiley which might not be big, green or freaky.
That would bother you, wouldn't it?
livius drusus
03-30-2005, 08:24 PM
It would only bother me insofar as all previous discussions of green freaky would no longer make sense. Like this one, for instance. :colors:

Simple solution to that is to prune all the threads. About time this place had a good spring clean anyhow.

Pick me, I'm lame!
Blind in one eye, too. And I have not one, not two, but THREE front teeth missing. I've got perfect hearing, though. And, happily, I squeak when I talk. :D
So how about you - wa'choo got?
Cheers!

And, as a side note, you will find my suggestion as to what should be done about the "oven-mitt sleepy bear" near the beginning of that thread.
