One year ago today, livius brought forth a loverly smilie, as she is kind to us. :piginablanket: That smilie touched me in a special place and in a special way, not unlike the way Chuck touches our moms.

And then something miraculous happened. By chance a divine inspiration struck first me and then, like a Prometheus Flame, spread across our glorious forum.

Children wept in delirium. Men rent their garments in devotion. Women threw their lacy things in desire! For a shining moment of time we were as one, enthralled and entranced to a delicious little emoticon.

The image called 'lolhog' is an example of an 'internet meme' and, while not inherently funny, relies on repetition and insertion into diverse unrelated contexts to amuse human beings. Humans have long relied on anthropomorphized caricatures of the creatures and items in their environment to create an idealized depiction of what they, themselves, wish they could be. In the case of the 'lolhog', an anthropomorphic pig speaks the ambiguous word 'lol', human shorthand for the phrase 'laughing out loud'. As 'lolhog' is clearly not literally laughing out loud but, rather, reclining in his blanket and blinking bookishly, he seems to rise, detached, above the fray, constantly laughing at, and simultaneously with, all those he encounters. By being inhuman, he is more than human. By inserting himself into any context imaginable, he transcends human limitations.
