They're running Ken Burns' The Civil War (not consecutively...just a few hours per night). I've forgotten how very cool this documentary is. I'll have to get a copy of it on DVD.

Oh, and McLellan was a pussy!

I'm not watching it, but you're right that it's way cool. I watched it the last time they ran it and was totally sucked in. Thank you for reminding me that I want the DVD.

You're welcome. There are times during it when I'm actually moved to tears...that's a difficult accomplishment for any film.

I'd get the DVD box set right now, but it's a bit spendy (even ebay won't let it go for less than about $80). However, it's definitely worth every penny...and it'll still be around by the time that I'll have the money to buy it.

My wife really loved the letter home from the doomed soldier to his wife. It would put her into tears every time.

The music behind the scenes is exceedingly evocative. I own a VCR copy of the whole thing, as well as a CD of the music alone.

Burns' genius for documentaries shows through in a big way with the Civil War series. His piece on the building of the Brooklyn Bridge is also captivating. If you haven't seen it, I recommend it.
