Dan Philips makes low income houses (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/03/garden/03recycle.html) in Hunstville, Texas, out of recycled trash. I don't mean he buys products that are made from recycled plastic or glass or wood. I mean he goes to dumps and construction sites and frame stores throwing out old samples and grabs anything he can then makes out a house of it.

The only new materials in any of his houses are plumbing, wiring, structural elements. He is completely self-taught (his previous careers include cryptogram puzzle maker, Army intelligence officer and dance teacher) and he hires unskilled labourers (including the future homeowners). That's how he manages to make the coolest fucking houses OF ALL TIME for the cost of a mid-range car.
