Bailey was our first baby, my wife and I picked her out from a litter of yapping little furballs. Bailey was The Instigator, while the other pups would sit and wait for someone to pet them, Bailey would run up to them and knock them down or tug at their ears.
Even at 13 years, she still had so much life in her and left us too early. We had to euthanize her after she had been attacked by a dog (so for a little while, I might not appreciate pibble face mauling jokes). The damage was too extensive, the odds of survival after surgery nowhere near good enough.
We miss her so very much, she deserved a better end than this.
Bailey, I am so sorry.

Forever Waiting
The alarm sounds, starting the day
Slowly at first, rising to a routine clamor
The morning bustles around you, but not with you
You wait
Waiting for the hand to open the door
Waiting to go out into the dew
Waiting to come back in
Waiting for your morning meal
The pack is packed and ready to go
The everyday words are heard
Good girl
See you later
Bailey stays home
Doors close, cars start
And then silence
And you wait
Waiting for a different alarm to sound
Waiting for the door to open
Waiting for the child's bag to hit the floor
Waiting for a hand to ruffle your fur
The family is eating
The youngest dropping morsels from the sky
The eldest feeding you on the sly
While dishes are cleared
You eat your own food
And slowly the day draws to an end
And you wait
Waiting for the TV to go dark
Waiting for the lights to go out
Waiting for her voice "Come on, Bailey"
Waiting for her arms to take you to bed
Then you wait for the day to start again
At the end, did you wait for us?
I am sorry
For keeping you waiting
Don't wait
Go
Run
Fly
Good girl.
