View Full Version : Hey, howzabout a site icon?
You know, the little icon that shows up on bookmark lists and in browser address bars?

Erm... am I on Candid Camera?
I could've sworn you made the one we're using. Do you not see it?
Nope. I do remember making a similar little graphic once but it wasn't for the purpose of a site icon. At any rate, it doesn't show in my address bar. I'll delete my bookmark and resave it to see if it shows there. :chin:

Weird. I could've sworn it was you who made it. Anyway now that you mention it I notice it doesn't show up in MSIE, but it does in Firefox. :chin:
Yeah, I'm using MSIE 6. Doesn't show at all.

It shows for me in Firefox, but not in IE.
Is there a chance we could make a "smiley" of that, too? Like say maybe :ff: ?

Ah, you did (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=48852#post48852) make the one we're using, Skeptoid. You just didn't realize it. :)
Nevertheless I'm clueless why it's not showing up in MSIE. :?

Here's the post of Skep's I got the current site icon from. I didn't realize it wasn't working on IE since it's fine on my Firefox.
Crumb, do you want it just by itself or with an actual little guy in there, like petting it or something? Possibly glomping it like the :miniglomp: I made for Lauri's new car.

Oh I was just thinking the straight icon. Or maybe you could do both?

I'm not getting it in Vanilla Mozilla 1.7.2, either.

Okay, that original isn't 16x16 pixels. Could that be why it won't work with IE? Anyway, could this site be of any help to you? http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/favicon.shtml

That definitely led me in the right direction, Skep. Thanks. Apparently Firefox didn't have a problem with my just renaming a .gif file favicon.ico, but I had to download and install a conversion program (I went with Iconshop 1.20 (http://users.pandora.be/liontech/Downloads.htm)) to convert the .gif file to .ico format for it to work in MSIE. It seems to work fine now. :slide:
I've got it in my favorites list now but it still doesn't show in the address bar. :chin:
Edit -- It just showed up in the address bar for the forum index. Yay!

Hmm... odd. It's working for me with MSIE 6.0.2 on WinXP Home and on Win2k. :?

I don't see problems, though. I see the novelty wearing off and it falling into disuse. But if problems arise, I can always disable it. :)

This sounds like a personal problem.
See? (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=56459&postcount=1072) People who are not "in the know" are going to get hurt feelings. This hack is a terrible idea.

Hack? What are you guys talking about?
I added a software feature today that made it so when someone started a sentence with "/you" (without the quotes) what you would actually see was something like * your name blah blah. As a result, Crumb put in that "/you is a brainless windbag yada yada" and you thought it was actually addressed to you. I've gone ahead and removed that feature to avoid any future misunderstandings like that.
