I saw an interesting show on PBS last night.

Apparently the deep sea anglerfish that we all know from science is the female of the species.

The male is only 1/10 the size of the female, and serves only one purpose in life (can you guess)? Using special teeth, the male attaches himself to the body of a female. Permanently. He then draws sustenance directly from her blood.

At first, male deep sea anglers are free swimming, with large eyes, no rod or lure, and no digestive tube. Their skin is smooth. His skin becomes spiny and around his jaws it fuses with the female's skin leaving a small hole on each side of the mouth which water is drawn for breathing.
