To weave a small Navajo rug like that one, Bertha Bia probably put in 250-300 hours, the large room sized ones as much as 900-1000 hours. Back when we lived out in the Four Corners area, they would get about $500 for one of those small ones from the trading post or about $900 for the large ones, roughly $2 an hour. The trading post would then mark them up 100-200% to sell to the tourists. When I was living out there, I could've bought lots of rugs for a thousand dollars each, if only I had had the money at the time, but I didn't. Inland wave bought silver and turquoise jewelry and sandpaintings on plywood for way below the going retail prices, paying the Navajo artisans that would visit the cafe where she worked more than they would get at the trading posts. The bad thing was, they were usually liquored up and broke by the time they left town, headed back to the rez with a few meager supplies.

Overstock is great for bedding. I purchased queen 1000 thread count sheet sets for less than $200. Good stuff, too. They were listed as "slight irregulars" but I still don't know what was irregular about them.

I hadn't read this thread yet, but when I clicked on the "go to newest reply" button, it took me to warrnely's post. I was like, "Huh?! What do your stupid rugs have to do with me? asshole."
But I eventually figured out that Sauron is the asshole, but at least I understand why.
