Every so often I hear a loud "bang" in my head when I'm trying to sleep. Sometimes it's worse than others. Last night was particularly bad, so I thought I'd :google: it.

I have Exploding Head Syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome).

It's horrible when it happens and I feel so much better knowing that it is harmless.

I'm stil having an MRI scan on my ears though, just in case.

But what you haz sounds worse.

Sounds miserable. :sadcheer:

It sounds ultra-rare, too. I hope you can get some sort of treatment for it, however random it is. Is it only when you sleep? ._.

I get that too, Watser? I'm obviously fun to sleep with. :giggles:

I can read in bed without it happening but once I've turned the light off to sleep, it starts. It happens before I sleep though and I don't recall it ever waking me up.

It's definitely when I'm stressed though. It's not a constant thing. It's happened for a while a few years ago and then stopped but it's started up again in the last few months. Sometimes when the noise is really loud it's quite scary.

I'm not so sure it's rare, I thought everybody has it on occasion. Mine started when I was a teenager, along with all the other "sleep disorders" like OBE, myoclonic tics, etc.

I've got some mild synesthesia, and the odd thing is these head explosions are only white flashes like a camera flash, while outside (intersubjective) noises that startle me produce different colored geometric patterns.

It is irritating (after the initial shock) to be jerked awake with alarm and an adrenaline hopped up heart.

I get that exploding head syndrome occasionally. I also get hypnic jerk. I used to get light shows, too... expanding and flashing white lights, I could could make them dance.

I get noises in my head all the time, often that wake me, but never quite that loud or disturbing. Door knocks are common as are random beeps. Had a really loud random beep the other day that correlated to nothing in the real world I could figure out. I figure it's all part of the sleep terrors/confusional arousal parasomnia I've had for years.

Do they tell you to invade Poland?

P.S. If during the day, worth having it checked out--assuming you never had them checked out.

Fantastic. I was wiki surfing those sleep disorders and now I am wondering whether or not I have narcolepsy.

Thanks LEES! :brooding:

But in all seriousness, that sounds troubling. Glad you don't have it while asleep. Also, at least it has a fun name.

I have Exploding Head Syndrome (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome).

:headasplode:

That totally reminds me--in past times ago I used to be in band called Exploding Pigs...

Apparently see, there were these pigs? spontaneously detonating in the Amazon?

We read all about it, in Weekly World News, then we named the band after them. As a tribute, to the all the asploded amazonian swine.

And now apparently, there is a new band calling themselves Exploding Pigs (http://www.myspace.com/explodingpigs), which is good--a name like that shouldn't be going to waste. We won't sue.

If only we had known about this exploding head thing we would have written a song about it.

If so, you're in very good company. I am, of course, talking about Vic Hitler, Jr. (ttp://www.facebook.com/pages/Vic-Hitler-Jr/126989694010954), the narcoleptic comic.

Did anyone--other than Vic Hitler--work after Hill Street Blues?

The career-ender of shows worse than M*A*S*H or Happy Days.
