And Google looks ever so pretty. Check out Leonardo.net (http://www.leonardo.net/gallery.html#start) to learn all about the art, inventions and checkered life of Leonardo da Vinci.

To the right you will see his design of a helicopter blade, a very familiar image to me because the gigantic statue of Leonardo at the Rome airport is holding one in his outstretched palm.

When I was a kid, I asked my dad what that was and he said it was a helicopter. I stared at that thing from every possible angle trying to see how it could possibly work as a helicopter. Finally, years later, I gave in and asked my dad if that was a helicopter, where did the people sit? He clarified that it was just the blade part and I was quite miffed. I stand by that miffitude to this day: a blade does not a helicopter make.

But enough about my issues, Leonardo da Vinci was way cool and celebrating his birthday is a far better use of time than doing your taxes at the last minute.

Well yeah, for any lazy fucks who haven't done theirs yet. Already got my federal refund back ... just waiting on the state one now.

Oh yeah, Leonardo was da bomb!

I first learned about Leonardo's inventions when I was working as a campus security guard and tasked with guarding a travelling Da Vinci exhibition. I had previously thought he was just a painter, so I was amazed to learn that he was an early inventer of so many different things - from watches to parachutes. That site appears to be down now, but I'll definitely give it a browse later on.

Hmm... It's working for me right now. Perhaps it was just a wee hiccup. I really like that site because it covers a great deal but is very spartan in design.

One of my favorite sketches of his, is his Vitruvian Man. Maybe not so much just because of the drawing, but because of what the drawing actually represents ... the guide to building the perfect temple.

I've heard that he considered the geometries of the human body to be a microcosm of the geometries of the universe, but I hadn't heard about the perfect temple idea. Would you have any links on that, by any chance?

Hey, sometimes you like a recommended source instead of sifting through dozens of New World Order freemason red font on black background sites to find a reasonable analysis. :hmph:. Thanks anyway, Lord Gracelack.
