We have decided to allow the use of HTML in posts, but in the interest of preventing abuse you must request to be added to the HTML group before you have access to that feature. Please understand that if your use of the HTML functionality is disruptive to the other members (such as re-directing them to other sites, messing up the page formatting, attempting to harvest passwords, etc.) you will be removed from the group.

Thanks and enjoy. :)

And a :bump: since vm has worked out the group permission bug so deftly.

Thanks vm, sorry about poking fun in that other thread. :blush2:

Is this where we ask to be put in the HTML group? I don't have any specific plans but I think I might have some use for it in the future.

Sure, this is a fine place to ask. :yup:

No! :D

Just today I wanted to add some HTML stuff, some results from some online quiz. But, I couldn't figure out how to do it.

Can I just copy and paste the HTML text containing the results in my post (after I've been granted permission, of course)?

Not that I'm asking for permission, because I'd probably just do it for one silly thread about a silly online personality test.

Sure, that would probably work. :yup:

Just let me know if/when you want HTML access and I'll put you in the group.

Hmmm. It must be that html doesn't work in "preview"? :chin: I like to preview stuff to make sure things work as intended before I post.

viscousmemories

I can't believe I spelled prove with two o's. I'm so embarrassed.

Anyhoo... you're right, it probably doesn't work in preview. That's probably because the hack I added to make it possible to restrict HTML use by usergroup doesn't accomodate preview. I'll look into that, but for now you should probably assume no preview.

Edited to say I realize I used too many probably's, but I'm okay with that.

Same here. Doesn't work for me either in preview. Sometimes I feel lucky and post anyway. Other times I have to test it in a local html file.

By the way, I'm looking for a new html editor, preferably open source. Any recommendations?

I would have said xml editor, but I need one that also has a flat file editing mode with syntax highlighting. I haven't yet looked into a docbook xml editor, but maybe that will do what I need.

As long as they weren't "prollys". One prolly is enough to make me tear my hair out. :hairpull:

I used to use HTML-Kit, it might suit you. It is very configurable and has plug-ins and such.

I scared up a link (http://www.chami.com/html-kit/features/)

I'm using the eclipse platform (http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/index.php), and I think their Web Tools Platform Project has a lot of HTML tools and such. I'm not positive, though, since I'm really only using it as a php editing platform and a front-end to CVS on my server.
