You would think that they would show up in mass to vote.

I answered "I generally find this poll to be bullshit and wish that you hadnt posted it." but it would be more accurate if you changed 'generally' to 'specifically'. :P

I'm not gonna pretend I wouldn't tear someone a new asshole if I found a thread on another forum devoted to ridiculing me. Hell, that's why they don't let me into the MCR. :D

I say! I thought *I* was the only one who posted dumb polls around here! :D

I voted for being in the goon squad, of course!

VM the difference between MH and you is, MH rather ASKED for this by running around ii picking on absolutely anyone and everyone for no reason whatsoever. He didn't even have the decency to apologise and admit that his behaviour was wrong..

As much as I hate cliches, two wrongs doesn't make a right. I just don't think mountain_hare has done anything here to deserve public ridicule besides his obviously hostile posts on a thread primarily dedicated to ridiculing him. Of course I don't have anything against people telling each other what's on their mind in whatever fashion floats their boat - I'm just saying if you consider how you would feel to find a thread full of people talking shit about you and judge his responses in that light, they don't come across as unforgiveable (imo).

I never said that his actions were unforgiveable, I just decided that I wanted to fuck with him for being an ass.

that is all.

two wrongs not making a right is the most obviously bullshit cliche ever imho.

take the pacifist view that violence is wrong and thus it is wrong to use violence to defend oneself. nonviolent protest only works with fairly civilized folk. Tieniman square, anyone? Seems to me that it is glaringly obvious that sometimes two wrongs does indeed make a right, as in when one uses violence to protect his life, family, friends, etc...

obviously an extreme example and I am not saying that I am right necessarily, more its a matter of not really liking that cliche.

also this might be a matter for another thread about morality if you prefer to continue this line of reasoning.

Perhaps we should give the guy a chance to fit in here. Who knows, maybe if we lay off he will mellow. I know nothing about him but watching him respond to that thread that would have pissed me off to if I were him.

that is all.Now Bey, considering your av, it might be better not to go off half-cocked and say such things. :tease:

Anyway, as teasing goes, I've seen worse threads devoted to mocking members.

Well true, I wouldn't like to see myself being slagged off in such a manner. But I can honestly say that if it was me, i'd be forced to evaluate the situation and ask myself if I might have done something to deserve people's emnity .. which MH definitely has. He could have retracted, at the very least, the things he said to Liv and OtheI.. I for one would respect him for that. But instead he dove in and started flaming right back. You might say 'well so would you' but the fact is that if I was in the wrong, I really wouldn't.

Geez, the stuff I miss when I don't check in over the weekend...

I do think m_h might like it here. I know he's not a fan of moderation, so obviously in that regard, FF is more his taste than II. I also know he's not a complete asshole from conversations I've had with him in the past. Anyhoo, despite the fact that I've long been one of liv's cheerleaders, it seems to me that the other thread went down pretty poorly and that if he's willing, y'all will give m_h another chance to make a first impression here, or something like that.

Well, I'd be prepared to if he apologised .. we all make mistakes. I have the feeling that he won't apologise though and that the response to this suggestion will just be more abuse :). Still, I could be surprised.

 Really? I don't think I would do well with such a thing directed at me. I don't see too many of them here either. I have seen forums that are full of flames wars. They are not fun. I would not post there. (This is not an invitation to start a "Flame Crumb" thread.)

Really? I didn't think there were any humans who don't have trouble with a flame fest directed at them! Granted, some people might not admit that it bothers them. But my personal belief is that it does, really.

But maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

I think he is joking about the insult threads that people post at one another. Theads that are really intended to be friendly banter.

If it was a serious thread with real insults, I would be very upset and I might either retreat or go head first flaming right back.

I haven't voted in the poll, and it's not just because I tend not to refer to myself in the third person unless I'm pretending to be a mob boss.

I feel bad for how the other thread developed. I didn't this morning because I had just read 2 pages worth of aspersions and dick put-downs, but in the end, I have to admit that vm, Beth, Crumb, Ro et al are right that it was the worst possible introduction to a forum, and as an administrator of said forum, a large part of my job entails not being a total cunt to members or people who are likely to become members as soon as they feel their ears burning.

I know you're just cracking your knuckles, bey. latin never played along and you've been itching for a good flamewar for ages. I also know that at least in part you're attacking him because he attacked me and I really appreciate that protective impulse. You're you and I wouldn't have it any other way if Vishnu descended from the heavens and paid me in buckets of cash and/or fleets of pimped rides.

I do hope that there's still a chance mountain_hare and I can come to some sort of understanding, although obviously in some areas -- mainly his notions of how to relate to theists, Christians and fundamentalists -- we are unlikely to agree. I still disagree that his behavior at IIDB was in any way warranted by whatever principle he believed he was upholding, but I now agree with him that I was wrong to start a thread virtually guaranteed to devolve into talking shit about him without telling him straight up that I wanted to take it outside.

So let me put it this way: if mountain_hare is willing, I would very much like to give FF another chance to make a first impression with him.

I dunno .. people don't usually get entire flame fests directed at them if they haven't done something to warrant it .. and even if they do, they have the option of not feeding the flames and just ignoring the thead :). I haven't been here all that long but I don't imagine that the place often gets random flame fests directed at entirely hapless participants.

I'm one who sees flame-fests aimed at himself when none were. Perhaps I'm succumbing to the mental disorders all skeptics have, a warped sense of reality. Or maybe I'm just real good at self-flagellation.
