View Full Version : Swiffer Duster: A must-have!

Every once in a while, we come across a product that is so great, we just have to sing its praises, even without an endorsement contract. This is one of those occassions.

The Swiffer Duster. Go buy one! Don't accidentally buy one of those ones on the telescoping poles (unless you have vaulted ceilings and ceiling fans), just the short blue handle will do fine. I bought it when I was in tech school and my dorm room was subject to random inspections. They never found dust anywhere, including the computer, blinds, air vents, and lighting fixtures. I even won an award for my super-clean room. (Those who know me know what a LAFF that is!) I have carried on my use of it in my new place, even though I don't get inspected anymore. I guess I just got used to living in a dust-free environment. It actually picks up the dust, instead of just moving around. And there's no chemicals or static involved, so you can use it on sensitive equipment. I have tons of computer, TV, and stereo equipment, and I keep it all dust-free with my Swiffer Duster. YAY!

Not trying to spam the board again, vm. Just looking out for my good friends here. :)

ETA: It's been a year, and I'm still on my first pack of 5 refills, so it's not a huge expense, either.
ETA: It's really good on the keyboard, too. You know what a bitch those are to dust!

Sounds great, if I just had someone to operate it...

Oh! I realize you were kidding Ymir's blood (mostly) but it occurs to me my OP doesn't really tell what the product is. It's not like a mechanical or electrical device or anything. It's really just a wad of dryer sheets stuck to the end of a short plastic stick. Kind of like a feather-duster, only better. It's way cheap and easy to operate. It's dusting for the extremely lazy. Like me. That's also why I'm opposed to the telescoping one. It's beauty is it's simplicity, don't complicate it! The coolest part is sliding it between stacked stereo components, like on the commercial. Also on the commercial, they bend and snake it around an obscene number of tchotchkes and framed photos, though I don't own enough crap to put that feature to the test.

Obviously you aren't extremely lazy if you use it...

Does it work on static electricity? I bought a duster that is supposed to do that some years ago. It works ok, but the whole 'recharge it with the TV' thing isn't so great for me, as my set is rarely on.

How about a link?

Nope, no static. I'd feel nervous using something staticky on my computers.

I got your link right here! (http://www.homemadesimple.com/swiffer/usenglish/products/dusters_hand.shtml)

That is one serously involved website for such a simple line of products. Caution: The above site is for US English users only! They have a Swiffer Duster for the auto. Silly me, I've been using the same duster for my home and my car. I'm so embarrassed!

Not available here (big surprise, that.)

Sounds neat, though. I may check it out next time I'm in civilization. Then it can sit around gathering dust with the other cleaning products. :\

I'm glad you posted this, because I was tempted to buy one last week and I thought, "yeah, they'll get me to buy that stick and then I'll be pouring cash into refills for the rest of my life."

I'm afraid I'm like Ymir's blood, in that I'm sure I'll need someone to operate it for me, as well.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I have heard that one should NOT use a swiffer or similar product if one has pets, that there is something in the chemicals they use that is toxic or at least unbeneficial to small animals. Just a caution.

Seems like that's an urban legend (http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_swiffer_wetjet.htm), maddog. :)

I'll be sure to ask my cleaning lady if she uses this

Made by the same people (I think) is this nifty dusting glove that is great for hard to reach places and knick-knacky things (of which I have few, except picture frames). My new place is a lot less dusty than the old one for some reason, but I still love it. I have the Swiffer you're talking about too, JD, and it does indeed rock. I have more fun with the glove though. :chin:

I did buy one today. And I got the one with the telescoping handle, not because I have vaulted ceilings ('cuz I don't), but because it was on sale and I do have ceiling fans and lots of bookshelves and tall stuff. And cobwebs I'm so bad these days.

Its pretty nifty, but I'd still like someone else to come operate it for me.
