View Full Version : Train Wreck ~ Crumb's first smiley

Crumb

Well since I kept getting credit for making smilies I didn't (and couldn't) make. I decided to try my hand at one. Here it is. If liv likes it, she can add it to the bunch. Thanks liv for your help and for letting me steal the train.

Thanks guys! :bowing: I am glad you like it.

What application do you use to make smileys with?
Well I used MS Paint to draw the frames (yes, you heard right.) and a little shareware program called CoffeeCup GIF Animator to animate them.

Yes, my initials are JC, no my first name is not Jesus. I am not sure what the big deal is. They are just yellow and red dots.

I agree. Good touch.

This is the realization of a dream expressed months ago in another thread. We had a 'locomotive bump' we were considering, but everybody dissed it. The one you've made incorporates all the effects that were asked for...well, at least the ones I thought worthy.

Thank you, Crumb.

But we really should get back to discussing crumb's first smilie... very cool indeed, I also noticed how he could have just done a mirror image - but instead took the time to make each side unique. Way to go crumb :yup:

Very carefully, with a lot of stretching and skewing.

No, thank you. Fifteen is my limit on schnitzengruben.
In Solingen, the town where I live, there is a part (too small to be called a suburb; you could call it a tiny village that was absorbed into the growing town) which is called Schmalzgrube.

This literally translates out to "Fat-Pit", or "Drippings-Pit". Germans like to eat fat and drippings, the remnants of a medieval life.

Mind you, there is another part of Solingen named Geilenberg, which would translate out in modern German and then into English as "Horny Hill".
As in, well, horny.

Go figure.

When my mom was living in Kiel, she said they would eat hard rolls topped with Schmalz and fresh-ground rock salt. Yummers!

Mom's a bit of a health nut. Germany was wasted on her.

Gurdur

Oddly enough, for all their love of fat and drippings, the Germans eat more heathily and suffer less obesity and obesity-related diseases than does the USA.
Such is life.

Ensign Steve

So very true, and same with France and every other nation on the planet. But the point is my mom was an American in Germany. We have a reputation to uphold, and frankly I believe she blew it. :yup:

It's possible to meet bad food and cake, though not often.
What bugs me is that in northern Germany, where I live, the food is too often bland, not bad.
In southern Germany they seem to be much more prepared to do really experimental stuff like hot Indian curries that are actually hot, whereas it can be quite, quite difficult to find a restaurant in northern Germany that doesn't make curries as though they were supposed to be wound dressings, instead of really aggro food, food that fights back when you eat it like it should be.

Crumb, what were they serving in the dining car at the time of the crash? Was there a curry on the menu, and was it bland or firey? If you neglected to draw a dining car in your excellent smilie, you can't blame us. Food discussions are clearly on-topic.

Oddly enough, for all their love of fat and drippings, the Germans eat more heathily and suffer less obesity and obesity-related diseases than does the USA.
Such is life.
There's more:

(A) The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
(B) On the other hand, the French eat a lot of fat and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
(C) The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
(D) The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and also suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.

Conclusion: Eat & drink what you like. It's speaking English that kills you.
